I've been looking for other options for my VW in the ECU control department as the best thing factory wise for a boosted VW is digifant 1 and its so limited and locked down i find it useless anymore. VW guys are so greedy with giving out ECU secrets its crazy. anyhow im not the most wealthy guy and cannot afford a stand alone setup so i've been looking into using honda managment or DSM managment and i leaned to all you lucky DSM guys out there. im working on a 2.0 16V turbo engine consisting of a mix and match of factory VW parts, some cummins parts, some custom made and some aftermarket. i already have several of the DSM sensors from a 90 talon TSI including the throttle body, cam angle sensor, MAF, and the engine harness so far. i need to know if there are any others im missing that are necessary to make the engine run. i was going to save up and buy DSMlink V3 but i jsut recently found out about the EV8 ECU conversion for the 1G and was leaning toward that because its way cheaper than DSMlink. i've been studying the harness diagrams and it seems i may be able to use the factory VW coolant temp sensors, there is a vehicle speed signal at the cluster as my car has a cable driven speedo, wondering if the tach output from the ECU will read properly with the VW cluster, i had a friend machine an adapter to fit the cam angle sensor where the VW's distributor used to fit in the head. is there anything i am missing at the moment? i would like to be able to get away from using a MAF and just run atleast a GM 3.5 bar MAP sensor. its late and im tired im sure i'll think of more to ask you DSM wiring guru's. by the way i have a ton of hybrid VW swaps under my belt so im pretty good with wiring and related. any help would be great, as if this all goes well i've also been thinking of actually fabricating all the DSM engine and driveline into my GTI, but thats far down the road. here's a few pics of the car i plan on doing this to.

it has an G60 crossflow turbo in it right now running on digifant 1 with a T3T04E,custom log turbo manifold, audi 5000 wastegate externally dumping, custom intercooler piping thats 2 1/2 to the intercooler and 3in from the intercooler to the 3in VR6 throttle body, the intake is custom made 3in short runner with velocity stacks inside, 310cc injectors which are holding me at 15psi. i need 440's to run above that and using 450 DSM's is what birthed this whole idea actually.

this is just one of the many ideas i have, i own several other project cars as well. one is my lifted 86 golf that i plan on setting the body on an isuzu tracker frame and driveline powered with a VW turbo diesel engine, and i cant forget to include my mid engine jetta coupe but that project isnt started yet as im not finished with these two.

here's my lifted golf now

i hope i dont get criticized for what im doing, most of the VW community online has shunned me for this idea but if i was still going to waste my time cracking digifant 1 and tell them all about it that would be a different story. so please be cool. thanks.

are you talking about a moates ostrich eprom emulator? i already have one of those. im leaning toward the EVO 8 ecu because i want something more perminant.

great thank's man, i'll put that on my to get list along with the EVO ECU. the engine im building to put it in now is like a hybrid VW engine. its a ABA 2.0 bottom end from a 94 golf with rebushed 9A 2.0 16V pistons, a 2.0 16V head thats ported and polished, stock cams for now as no one makes boost cams for this engine, stock ABA metal head gasket, ARP head stud kit, another custom made short runner intake with velocity stacks but im undecided weather to go with 3in or 4in plenum, im building my own ram horn turbo manifold, holset HX35 from a 12V cummin's, same audi 5000 turbo external wastegate, im undecided on which throttle body to use also which injectors. a guy i know on VWvortex built a very similar engine about a year ago and made 507WHP. my digifant kills over around 300 and im at 308WHP with my single cam turbo now also im pretty sure thats about all the T3T04E has in it too. i jsut got off the phone with a friend who's a big DSM fan and he's actually gonna buy the EVO 8 ECU, knock sensor and all the related parts to make the jumper harness. he's gonna let me use his galant VR4 to do experimentation and learning with ECU related goodies.

It sounds pretty fun LOL.. I would rather go for the DSMlink but its your ball park.. WIth link you can change things and imitate things to make them work.. You could also run speed density with a simple map and iat...

i definately want the speed density option but i thought i read the EVO 8 ECU is capable of that as well. i may be wrong though. i still may just go with the EVO 8 ECU for now because of funding, DSMlink V3 is pretty expensive. i can always change to it later once i save up some flow for it and sell off the EVO ECU setup.

Ya evo 8 ecu can run speed density. im doin the evo ecu in my 1g talon. y didnt u go with the 20V motor? That motor is a trooper. did u just wanna go with some thing different? Me and one of my friends made his 96 jetta in to a 2 door with a golf quarter panel.

alot of people ask me why i dont just build a 2.0 20V and my reason is that the 16V head actually flow's more and better than the 20V head. we ported one of each to the max and had them both flowbenched and the 16V out flowed the 20V. its 3 tiny exhaust valves in the 20V that are killing the flow and theres really not much room to go any bigger. thats good news about the EVO ECU being capable of speed density, im not really a big fan of running a MAF in a boosted car regardless of it being factory or not. i know theres's been a ton more research with DSM's using the GM MAF and such because its been done for alot longer but i just dont like it. i think a MAP sensor belongs on a boosted car and thats that.

Why aren't you running the emulator then? Run speed density with it, get your setup right and burn it to a chip, can't get much more permanent than that.

the emulator gets used by myself and several other people. so i cant reallly dedicate it to the car as its needed on the dyno. i got a hook on a couple EVO 8 ecu's around my area in the past couple days. my buddy said he knows a tom guy that might have one so im gonna follow up on that. i found a VW guy on VWvortex that actually did an extremely similar setup using a 91 1G harness and all the sensors with AEM EMS. so that tells me doing it the way i want to is definately possible. he even has said when he loaded the 1G BIN file into the brain the car fired right up and it was enough to drive it to a dyno to get things tuned in properly. this was execellent news to me. what im trying now to figure out is how the reflash side of the tactrix is added in, i have an ebay VAG-COM cable and by the looks of things i can mod it to be like a tactrix cable to reflash the EVO ECU. but i cannot find any information on where that wire is tied into at the cable's end. anyone know if this has been attempted or is possible? i can change the PID of my cable to the tactrix cable as well as i've done that before but i dont know the tactrix PID number.
