I'm not a registered user on dsmlink so I cant find this but does anybody here run dsmlink through a palm pilot? If so could you explain how well it works and the pros and cons. Thank you.

There is a Palm version available for free to registered users of DSMLink. But from what I understand the Palm version in not actually a product of DSMLink, but is from "Hal Landry". And DSMLink does not officially offer support for the Palm version.

But they do have a palm section in their users forum. So you really can get good suport on it.

I see I was just wondering if it was possible or not and didn't lose function.

Yes, there is a palm app designed by Hal Landry and support for it on the DSMLink forums. You lose some functionality, but most of the features of the PC App are implemented in the Palm App.

I too am curious, I was thinking I could tune my car with my moms laptop and use my palm for those daily monitoring/small changes. anyone think its possible to do that, and if not, what functions are we talking about? even if it is possible, still, what functions do you lose?

This is what I wanted to do too and why i asked. I was just wondering about the features you lose when using a palm pilot.

with out the dsmlink motherboard and chip you can't use dsmlink to tune at all with just a laptop or pda.

no shit, im talking about using my moms laptop for all the baseline stuff then changing to the palm later. what part didn't you understand?

You hardly lose any functionality, at all. With the palm app you lose some of the log clipping capabilities, you lose the ability to add notes to a log, and you lose some of the smoothing and normalizing capabilities. Pretty much everything else is implemented. All of the ECU editing options are still available... I.E. you can play with the fuel, timing, airflow, nitrous controls, etc. You can log, you can save ECU maps to the palm, and you can transfer logs to the PC.
What you want to do would work perfectly, Tstkl. You will need a null modem, which can be had for about $10 at radio shack to use the palm with the supplied DSMLink cable. Also, you have to be careful what palm you are using. A lot are not compatible with the software. Apparently, most of the older green screen/black case Palm's work with Palm OS 3.5 or higher. There are also a handful of color Palms that work. I have wanted to do this for a long time, but I am too lazy to go out and get a palm that will work.

Do you possibly have a list of palms that work? Preferebly the color ones?

I have a palm IIIc color with os version 3.5

will anything that can run 3.5 work?

yes your palmIIIc will work. anything palm os 3.5 and up should work except for Palm o.s 5.0 i believe. I'm currently using my palm IIIxe with dsmlink until i get a new laptop. and most people just use their palms for daily use for monitoring and small adjustments.
