Does DSM link have the ability to do "target AFR under closed loop operation?" I am going to be buying a stand alone in the next few weeks for my 93 TSi and overall the cost isnt that much more for the AEM by the time you figure in a Eprom Ecu, Link, 2nd gen MAF.
its only a few hundred dollars differnence for quite a bit more.

For AEM you also have to figure in the extra sensors you should get like a map, wideband, and iat and the extra cost for tuning since aem is a lot harder to tune than the link. Most people won't be able to get the base maps right on the aem. Don't get me wrong i like aem's standalone but it really depends on your goals.

I kinda get to cheat with that i have a 2 and a 3 bar GM a IAT and BCS from my syty days. I would pay to have base maps done on either one just so i could start out with an excellent running car then tinker from there.

I'm assuming your original question is about being able to change the ECU's target AFR in closed loop. DSMlink can't do it. But, most wideband's with simulated narrowband outputs can. I only played with it for a short time, so I can't comment on how well it works. Even with the AEM though my closed loop AFR never went over 15.5:1 or so, not much of a change. Being able to run richer at idle can help with the big cams, but there aren't many cams worthy of the change available for DSMs anyway, and timing increases are very effective too. Another thing that people sometimes forget to take into account is that if your area does ODB2 based emissions testing or is planning to do it in the future, you're screwed with an AEM. Not trying to sway you one way or the other, just thinking out loud. I currently run both systems on my own cars, and like them both.
