I was trying to see why people say Mitsubishi's aren't good and reliable. I've had my car (95 GST) gone to the shop already two times and I really want to know if I should get rid of it. I'm tired of this hassle and getting a word from DSM experts would really help, if anything. I love turbocharged cars but if these problems are going to persist, I may just get rid of the car.
Please, help me. Anything...

i bought my car on 170 000 now is with 195 000
when they have so many miles they brake down every month something new most of the time
and i bought my car completley stock

same as me in a way, bought my 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD with 178XXX, it needed new shocks and rotors, so slapped on brand new KYB AGX Struts with Eibach sportline springs with brembo rotors and brand new OEM calipers all the way around with stainless steel brake lines. it feels amazing now. Seriously like a new car and its at 185XXX now, with completely stock engine and trans:hellyeah:

I bought a 91 talon tsi here in europe with 91k miles (if real) and i changed last year i have it:
all belts, new water pump, 2 exhaust valves, all filters, all head gaskets, poly motor mounts, all brake pads, all fluids, new 16g turbo with e3 ex. manifold and o2 house, new battery, new clutch master cil, teflon clutch line, new tie rod ends, new front sway bar bushings, t-case driveshaft seal, cleaned IC and intake manifold, new thermostat, new o2sensor, new plugs and wires, refurbised stock shocks,
and that was for the mechanics...
Previous owners didnt care much about it, the car still have some problems in winter with fuel cut or something, but is my first awd and is so much fun to drive ...in snow you can go like there it isnt there...very good tracton...I like the looks so much and it has its personality indeed so thats why i stiill have it.....the problem is that is much expensive to buy parts from usa...anyway ENJOY it if it still drives you...hehe

DSM's are only as reliable as the Owners let them be.

The can be as reliable as Honda Accord\Toyota Corrola or they can can be as reliable as a GM. It's all about how religous you are about upkeep

If you just bought a DSM, and its braking down a lot, or has a lot of issues. Chances are its from Abuse\Neglect from the previous owner.

Yup, just like several people mentioned above... people tend to forget this cars ARE 10+ years old. Like ANYTHING, they will not last forever. Most fall victim to being hacked up and modified by people who have no idea what they are doing, as well. (I have seen some cars in which I cannot beleive they were functioning! One kid BYPASSED the fuse box and hot wired everything!!) So when they fail... of course it's the car's fault. LOL! I haven't had many issues with my car. It's got 190,000 miles, and of course I've had to put money into it... it's old. The car is my daily driver and I've put about 50,000 miles on it in 2-1/2 years. So to me, the car's been great.

If you're looking for one, my advise it to try to locate one that is stock.

Thanks a lot guys. You all really helped me out by not just listening to put downers of DSM's without giving reasons why. I mean, come on, I really love JDM and what not, but I just need a car that I would be able to work and learn at the same time. I just got into mechanism and help is what I would prefer, not hate from haters. We'll see, but thanks again guys. Give suggestions if possible. Thanks, Victor.

DSM's aren't JDM, there are no JDM DSM's. They were all made in Normal IL. Look at your door sticker, made in usa. You need a honda. As mentioned these cars are all at least 10+ years old, turbo, and cheap. Your story is familiar. Young people buy these, have a problem, then dump the car even cheaper than they bought it. This causes the book value of the cars to go down even further, causing more young buyers, which leads to a loop that ends with cheap dsm's for people like me to buy and fix for nothing.

And true, IMO seeing 4 doors on a car just doesn't cut it as a road machine even if it's all tricked out. That's the family/chic/grandmas/bro 1st car that has been modded up to look sporty.

Why I can't get over why DODGE returned the Charger in a four door trim. Be like FORD taking the Mustang and adding rear doors to it. "Yeech"

Just not personal enough like our DSM's are....

Well put.

If you save up and buy and Evo, you'll be paying MUCH more to get the Evo fixed because they're newer and not as easy to work on.

Agreed.

Not to mention, parts will cost a arm in a leg.

There's no junkyard deals for Evo's

I have a 95 GST also. When I got the car it only had about 127000 on it. I dont not drive it hard at all. I have people tell to quit driving like a grandma. But now im looking at an engine rebuild this march (got the parts box in my room collecting parts) because the previous owners completely did not take care of the car. I mean when i got it i cut 100ft of extra wire from under the dash from leds and what not, they had the wastegate unhooked, (not performance related but...) and how hard is it on speakers to put the black wire with the black wire and the tracer with the tracer? Its all in how you take care of your car.

As for the EVO im gonna get one someday (hopefully when i turn 25). But most you see for sale now are around the 40000 mile range. Thats because they have a VERY expensive fluid change due at 40,000. So just keep that in mind when buying an EVO.

you get an awd turbo dsm and keep it bone stock, it will last you longer than those hondas and corollas. these are very well built cars thats why they became so popular among tuners, not just reckless beginner drivers whos favorite upgrade is a manual boost controller. I love to see people trying to get 3 times the horsepower that our motors were designed to hold and get surprised when shit breaks. Any turbo car goes down great in monetary value as miles increase because its a fact people beat on turbo cars. Street value of an '04 STI with 20k miles is around 25 grand, same car with 130K miles, 11 grand. and you know you will need that difference of 14 grand to keep the thing running. Its a simple fact, dont beat on it, shit wont break as much.
