I have found one site that sells rebuilt ECMs and offers to rebuild yours if you send it in. its www.ecmtogo.com. Im wondering what other sites/stores are out there. I need to compare prices as this will be the second ECM goin in the car.

also on the way is a complete electrical scan to see if something else is causing the ECMs to fail.

already replaced so many things on this car, I've owned it 3 months and its been on the road maybe a week. definately more trouble then its worth, not really because its a DSM, but more where I bought it from. Red Cap Motors in Trenton NJ. Ive recently found out that they have been black listed and have complaints going as far back as 2000 and somehow they are still in business. :thumbdown

The most likely cause of electrical problems is the alternator or regulator. As the system is integrated on the DSM you should pull yours out and have a reputable place test it.

You could be getting half wave rectification or just over volting the system. Both will cause problems with your ecm and possibly other items in the car. The fix is easy as all you have to do is replace the alternator assembly. (120 bucks or so with lifetime warrenty).

To check for half wave rectification let the car idle at a low idle (650 rpms) and turn on the lights, ac, interior lights, radio, etc. look at the interior lights...are they flashing a bit?

To check for overvolting witht he car parked wire up a voltmeter to the alternator (or lead side of the battery terminals) and rev the engine. If you go much over 14V then it is bad.

I still need a new ECM and while I appreciate the reply, doesn't help me any...

yeah Im not gonna do a classifieds thing cuz Im not going with a used one. I also dont want a manufactured refurbished one, I want if anything a new or rebuilt one from a third party dealer. much better components that will stand up to the heat...this will be my second replaced ECM so Im trying to elliminate as much future problem as possable...

it looks like ecmtogo.com is gonna win out due the lack of competition, not that I dont trust em, I just wanna make sure its the best price before shelling out $250 or so

thank you very much laser dad, that jesters tuning has a real good price on their units, Im gonna have to give them a call/email
