Has anyone used the chip that can confirm the "knock sensor on boost gauge" works? I know the TMO chip didn't support that feature so I can't imagine how this one does if it's a ripoff of the TMO.

its not the knock sensor on the gauge. it just shows timing advance. pretty much the same thing. i dont even have a datalogger on my car and i was able to tune it to a 13.2@101 with just exhaust, fuel pump, and an old school afc, at altitude with just my boost gauge. these chips are the shit. if you have an eprom you would be STUPID to not get one.

It's not hard to copy a eprom chip just need the equipment. If your in the computor field they are very easy to come by and chips are very cheap. This process only takes a few seconds so this guy is making a killing.

Same goes for software like windows xp, MOH, etc. Yea it only takes a few seconds to create a cd with the software. But what your paying for is the programming within.. For what this chip does to your car its worth every penny. Of course I wouldnt mind paying 10 bucks for one of these chips if one ever popped up.

I still think even 90 bucks beats 300 by quite a margin.... :thumb:

If you are going to rip them off, might as well just copy them for $2 a pop instead of $95.

my car came with a eprom and i will be getting that chip as so as i get my car back, that is if i don't need a motor. (i threw a rob bearing.)

Todd Day did great things for the first 10 years of DSM'ing. He almost singlehandedly got the online community going. His TMO Chip was incredible stuff. I have one for my 2G.

However, he has fallen off the face of the planet. 1G owners really don't have any choice but to find a copy of that EPROM. 2G owners have the far superior DSMLink they can buy.

Todd dropped the ball, IMHO. He was very close to having the functionality of DSMLink on his chips, and he could have made a killing, like the DSMLink guys are doing. Oh well. I'm sure he just got totally burned out with DSM's. www.dsm.org is still up though, amazingly.

IMHO, pirate away. :shhh:

anyone who has installed this themselves, how hard is it to do?

If you know how to solder well and have a pretty solder station, then it's not that hard to do. Good thing my friend is a soldering freak. He said the hardest part of the install is removing the composite clear stuff that's on the ecu board before desoldering the stock eprom. The clutch cut wire is a piece of cake!

Hope this helps.

I have to agree. I waited 3 months for my datalogger from Todd. He just doesn't care about the community anymore, and why should he? He's been in it for way longer than the majority of us.

But honestly, how can you say the TMO chip is really pirated? Todd took Mitsu's code and modified it. Isn't that in itself stealing? Todd used is skills in the best way he knew to help us out. But his chip in no way can be copyrighted, because he's using Mitsu's base code. So this chip is in no way infringing upon any copyright he has. The only thing Todd ever did that was considered theft prevention was he programmed every chip with an ID #. He would log who he sold that chip to, incase anyone ever sent him a copy of it for modification. If it was a copied chip, he would just refuse service. Not like we're going to get that now.

IMO, the software is worth $90-something bucks. The studder, the speed shifting, all that stuff is awesome and it really helps.

The only way to install this chip without permanently soldering it in is to socket the ECU. If you're not experienced in soldering I definately wouldn't recommend this. For the money you save, take it to a professional to have it installed. You can tell if you have a EPROM ECU by looking at the Part# label on it. If you have MD166262 (Just as an example) in the lower right hand corner of the label you will have a code letter of "E" on the label. The other codes are "M" and "T" I think, which do not have EPROM's. Hope this helps, I figure for 90.00 even if you do get screwed you didn't lose alot. Better than spending 300.00 for something that can be made for 2.00 IMO

I have one and it works comfirm the 8K redline and the shift light in my friends car.

Will try out the launch control in a week in my car when the motor is back together.

ok, i only have 1 question
can i get my 1g ecu socketed for eprom? because this chip seems like a good deal but im not converting my car to obd2 to use a 2g ecu to get eprom, espicaly for a chip, iv heard of people doing this to get dsmlink on a 1g and it just seems like a big waste to me, id just keep my obd1 and get the apexi power FC stand alone(its only available in obd1)
i see a few 1g owners have posted saying they used this chip, and the add lists 1g fetures, so can i get my ecu socketed?
