I am not going to stick-up for TMO, after providing DSM community with some of the most innovative products (not to mention starting Club DSM), they really dropped the ball? There is not excuse for how Todd has treated the community (that HE started) in the last 12-18month.

HOWEVER. People like Mitsubishi Specialties really PISS ME OFF, they are bluntly copping TMO?s products (complete with graphics from TMO?s website) and rip people off. Is $90 a good deal when compared to $300? Yes, but Todd?s original price was based on:

1. Amount of research that went into this product (I am talking about many YEARS of work here).
2. What the market was willing to pay for such product at that time.

Mitsubishi Specialties has not endured any research cost and frankly at this point, I whish that Todd would just come out and GIVE AWAY all his stages to put losers like that out of business, he can?t be selling many(any?) of them anyway...

Once upon a time, DSM community respected businesses that introduced innovations. Now, why would anyone bother creating a new things when everyone is just going to copy it?

If you feel like ripping-off TMO, why waste $90? Why not find a friend with a chip burner and copy it for next to nothing?

thats what copyrights are for. if todd would have done this he would be rich just suing all the copycats. im not sure if he could copyright something like that though.

To pay $90something isn't that bad...but if someone wanted to pirate the pirates.....the appopriate eprom burners can be had for $50, while the chips themselves are $2-$5.

As far as ripping Todd off - The guy made a product that he never copyrighted. He abandoned the project and now others are reproducing his work. It happens, the exact same thing happens with all kinds of people's work and it all comes down to if they really didn't want others to copy it they should have copyrighted it themselves. There is no doubt that Todd put a lot of hard work into this and I'm sure everyone appreciates that, but he isn't answering any requests and people want the product.

, jdm, #1 is impossible. the eprom ant reconfigure air fuel ratios. only the other stuff. thats why we have afc's.

Yeah the eprom can't reconfigure them on the fly but the are the fuel maps not stored in the eprom? If TMO made modifications to the stock tables that would make #1 entirely true.

ok i have a lot of questions.

1. i have a 2g 95 with eprom, the kind you need for dsmlink. will this bi*** work? i am good at soldering.
2. does it remove fuel cut? i know the tmo chip claimed it could. if this bastard removes fuel cut, im buying it, because fuel cut can suck on my ####ing wang.

I have one of these chips and it works great! It works just like it is advertised and it is in every aspect the same as the TMO stage 3 chip. I have had mine in for about 3-4 months now and have had no problems with it. I had mine installed with the socket by an electronics repair shop that I know of around town. 90 bucks how can you go wrong?

As for the copying of the chips... The chip helped me out a lot. And since you can't get them from TMO anymore this guy is just picking up on the trailing end of "Todd's" abandoned project. If he wasn't there burning chips, who would you get it from? Just my .02

IMHO, just get the chip and be happy launching your car from 6,000 RPM!!:thumb:

Can someone explain this studder box a little more in depth for me. Thanks. :talon: :thumb:

Ok... You turn your key on without your car running and you push in the clutch... You look at your stock boost gauge and tap the gas once and you watch your boost gauge go up to the -7 now your stutter box is set to 4500 rpm's... So your out cruising around and this camaro pulls up next to you and he has some slicky sticky tires on the back... You know you need to pull him out of the hole so you push your clutch in and rev your motor up to your stutter box ie. "4500rpm" not floored but just enough to make it hit that rpm. Now floor it and it will actually build boost then you dump the clutch and you will rip him out of the hole. Now when you hit second gear leave your foot on the floor with the gas and push the clutch in the engine will have a 6000 rpm rev limit at which you can just shift into gear at WOT. Pretty handy to make some quick shifts. Does that help you out at all?

BTW, the lauching works best at 5500rpm in my car, at which I build 10-12lbs of boost out of the hole on my stock 14b.

4000= about 4-5lbs of boost
4500= about 6-7lbs of boost
5000= about 7-9lbs of boost
5500= about 10-12lbs of boost
6000=12lbs is about max off the line.

You also need a good clutch for this because I smoked my stock one the first time I launched it under boost. I have the ACT 2100 and it spins the tires at 5500rpm dumps. Trust me it's fun. Also there is a large intimidation factor with this chip. Just hit your stutter box and they think that there is more under the hood!! A lot of people don't want to play when they hear that!!:thumb:

I noticed it says "second generation stutter box.....4k" meaning the highest you can set the stutter box limit is 4k on a 2g.

My question is would 4k be high enough to launch a 2G AWD? It seems kinda low as I always launch at over 5K at the track.

Thanks

I've got a *real* stage 3 TMO 2G chip I'll sell for cheap. Worked great, but I've got DSMLink now.

It even says "Copyright 2000, TMO" on it. ;)

I'm not quite sure on the 2g chip because I don't own a 2g but what I can tell you is that my 1g chip is Identical to the 1g TMO stage 3 chip which I would probably suspect that the 2g chip is the same way.

FAQ

When is my work protected?
Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or with the aid of a machine or device.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration.”

I was just searching for more info oh this "chip" because I am looking for an alternative to an AFC, they cost too much! Can this VPC chip be used in place of an AFC? Also, what is an eprom ECU? How can you tell if your ECU will accept this software? And does this chip just solder into the ECU? This sounds like a great deal since I am upgrading my fuel ststem, and I will need to adjust my A/F ratio, will this chip alow me to do that?

Whoa, slow down there.
It cannot be used in place of an AFC. It does NOT adjust air and fuel.
It is NOT a VPC chip. That is something totally different (and not really relevant here). Its a TMO chip (or knockoff of one).
An Eprom ECU is an ECU that was put in the early models of each model year. It is re-programable.
How can you tell if you have an eprom? You have to open up the ECU and check.

Even if it could adjust air and fuel, why bother? You can pick up an old style AFC for the same money and way less work.
