I'm hoping to have the Talon ready to go for an event next weekend. I just got the car a couple of weekends ago and I'll be getting the ECU back in tomorrow so I haven't been able to do much. What do you more experienced guys think I need to check before I head out to dodge some cones?

Also, I'm going to order some tires. I have the factory 16's... What size tires can I get on there? Tire Rack says 205, another site I was looking at said 215s or 225s. Any advice there? It's a 92 TSi AWD.

Thanks :talon:

Nothing you guys can help me think of? :(

Normally I'd say Evo wheels (because they're really cheap) and decent tires (speak for themselves), but you've got a 1g, and there's this little thing called offset...

As for things to check, anything you'd check before a long drive; fluids, tire pressures, etc.

Best thing I can say is to make friends at the events and ask them about what you should do/get. Have instructors ride with you to tell you what you need to work on to get faster.

And don't be afraid to get real close to those cones. While they make a terrible noise when they go under your car, they're not going to hurt much of anything. Plowing through cone walls is part of the experience, and even some of the best guys I know still do it.

I've ran 3 autocrosses with my 1g, with Evo wheels, and it's damn low, no rubbing. The car is fantastic, I just suck. I'd recommend them as thier usually cheap and the 235s are lovely.

Just make sure your car is in good condition. Take all the trash out. have plenty of air in your tires and just have fun.

I would listen to Tire Rack. Unless the OEM rims are 8 inches wide, 225s will most likely not fit. As far as what you need for a "checklist" to get ready for the event. If you have not already done so, do yourself a favour and get an alignment. Allot of people over look this and it is very important. If your brake pads are old, get some new ones. Bleed your brakes. Oil change, all fluid change meaning coolant etc. Get all loose items out of the car, ie. floor mats, books, spare tire, jack etc. You dont want things being able to fly around. Go over the car very good and make sure everything is in good condition. If there is a belt that looks iffy, change it. Check your wheel bearings, battery is strapped down good. They will check all of this in tech. If you have an air compressor take it, if not, make friends with someone who does :D Extra fuel, if you encounter what I and other DSM racers encounter with the gas sloshing around and not being able to get to the pickup in the tank. Extra oil, in case you burn some out. Extra water for your raditor in case something goes wrong there.

Some things people tend to overlook as they are not apart of the car. Chairs, tent (if you have one), water, snacks, money (for entry fess and what not).

Most of all, go out there and have fun and drive your car. You may not be the fastest guy out there but that really is not he point of AutoCrosses. Its all about learning car control and having fun....Good Luck :thumb:

Wow I had given up on this thread and I've came back to all of this great info. Thanks for the help. You guys rock.
