Ai. I can't speak for the prokit... but have used H&R products before when I had a VW. Good products, would do it again.

With your 2G you have a lot more choices for coilovers though. Like Tein, Tanabe, Truechoice (Koni), JIC... there are a few others I can't recall right now. Try a search on coilovers.

The GC kit is OK... but it's far from perfect. My ex-roommate installed them on his 97 gst after being sick of the AGXs because everyone raved about the GCs back then. After a short test drive after the install, he took it apart to check things over and found out one of the rubber or poly pads was torn already. My memory is a bit hazy but I think it was the cushion pad betwen the shock and the car. Bacially it wasn't designed right and force of the springs cut right though it. He ended up designing a part and had it custom CNC'd at a machine shop. He was also told that tender springs weren't needed but we lived on a hill with a banked uphill driveway and the rear springs kept unseating. More money spent and tender springs took care of that. Not a big deal just annoying when the spring seats itself with a loud bang.

For the money... including what it took to get it to work perfectly, I would've spent it on a true coilover kit.

I am familiar with those products, and their prices. I was just hoping that these would be good. All of the formentioned were on ebay for around 200 bucks

Well, they actually carried every thing you recomended, but still there was no implication that it was. If it means any thing to any one the ground controls are built on eibachs million dollar spring press.

True... I overgeneralized... but most of the stuff on eBay can't really be trusted. I've sold and bought stuff on eBay and I have been ripped off before. Either the stuff isn't quality or the seller/buyer isn't.

The pieces of the GC may be made well, but since it is like an universal kit, don't expect it to show the attention and detail a specifically designed kit would have.

Yes, I know the springs are Eibachs.

Manufacturing matters... so does R&D. None of the pieces should break on the first drive.

Yugo, Audi, Hyundai. Respectively.

Yeah, an Audi isn't a BMW, but they still win a lot of races.

You guys who are lumping GC in with Dropzone and Weapon R need to get out more. And are GCs really showing up on eBay?

ps. PaulPDX - sounds like your roommate forgot to install the metal ring that protects the upper spring seat bushing ... and an N of 1 is not really the best database to generalize from

Well, it is just one example for anyone interested to ponder. It's up for whoever reading it to figure out the information's worth for themselves. I never said my opinion is law.

I doubt my ex-roommate forgot to install the part. He installed everything according to GC's instructions and had even called GC to find out what was up. GC was somewhat not helpful but eventually agreed to send him a replacement part. For a good part of the conversation they flat out denied that the failure could be possible and even back-tracked him through the installation process to make sure everything was done right.

Who knows, maybe his was an isolated incident. Maybe someone else had the same problem. As with any product, there are always people who don't like it, or love it, or even love it just because they spent money on it. I only gave out what I know and saw. Your mileage may vary... and that's your problem.

Did they ride nice? That's really my only concearn. How can you F up a spring I'm askin myself, specially on eibachs press? What is a streetable spring rate I should look for? I think that gc front spring rate is like 350.

Will koni yellows be able to handle that?

The default set up from GC for an AWD 2G is 450/300.

Yes, a Koni Sport can handle these rates. In fact, a Koni Sport can go to at least 500/450, although you might be better off with 450/400 for a variety of reasons.

Nothing was wrong with the spring or the collars or the perches. It's a RUBBER or polyurathane pad that was a part of the upper assembly in the rear.

I understood that. I've also seen several GC kits installed without the large metal ring that sits on the rubber-like bushing.

I know you understand it. My comment was directed to 14.5's question "How can you F up a spring I'm askin myself, specially on eibachs press? "

I don't care. I wanna pick a fight. You're ugly. Your car is slow. My other ride is your SO. Etc. Etc.

In other words: oops, sorry about that, Paul. I should have known better.

pull yourselves together men!!!! Who cares, i will get a good gromet, I have good luck with these types of things. Now tell me, did they ride nice, on bumpy roads? My local streetz are pretty f'ed up, and every rail crossing is torn to shit. Will my car survive out there with all that spring? Is 450 recomended?

jtmcinder: you won't get the satisfaction. Adios.

14.5: obviously, it won't be like stock, but you'll probably be pretty happy with the Konis. Will the car be all street or will it see some track time? It's all street, you might want to check out the Tein SuperStreet as well, since they are at about the same price range ($900).

hahahaha

Anyways, GC doesn't belong in a category with crap like dropzone and weapon R, and if you think it does, you're greatly overlooking the fact that GCs are performance oriented springs that are wound by Eibach, which is synonymous with quality. And people who have had bad experiences with them were usually running shocks that couldn't handle it or installed wrong etc etc.

I have Dropzone springs not coilovers !

the front is great 2 inch drop ... the springs are thicker

the rear is also 2 inch drop but jumps a lil to much... im in the process of doing cut springs in the rear just to have 1 inch and half drop.....

i also have installed tokico hp shocks..

i think any type of ebay coilovers are garbage, i had them and i couldnt take it anymore after a couple months....... idk about dropzone coilovers i heard those were garbage.... but to me ive heard people talking about gc's coilovers they shouldnt be too bad, no bad rumors i heard.

I don't know about anyone else but, I'm planning on the GCs and konis, it seems like a reasonably priced standard. . .

If there are any other comparable alternatives, please post a link.

BTW, ludachris, you have a very cute little gsx. purrr. ;)
