Doors will not latch closed

So heres the deal, my doors will not close. They literally bounce when you try to shut them.

When I started looking around, I saw the latch that clasps around the bar attached to the car is extremely weak on one side, and will not click into the closed position on another. If anyone has a diagram of the door mechanism, this would be easy to show.

I would rather get this done in 1 shot on both sides along with the door handles since they need some adjusting/replacing. The only problem is I dont want to guess at what it is or have to explore to find out what the problem is.

Car sat for a long time, so I think something internally decided to break on both doors. Once again, its the latch that clasps onto the bar on the frame of the car that holds the door in place when closed.

I ain't got much knowledge on this but I had a similar problem on the driver door. My brother f***ed with it using a flat head and wd-40. Trying to open an close the hook multiple times. Then realized the spring that latches the hook was disconnected due to door slamming ha. I felt dumb or some.

Could also try spaying a penetrant into all the cracks on the latch mechanism, it's possible they got rusty/stuck from sitting.

So it is the latch inside the doors that are interfering correct? Or is it the hoop that the latch closes on that is ttached to the frame?

#4 is the latch assembly, and #8 is the hoop/striker.

Its the latch that closes on the hoop on the frame. When I move it, it feels really easy to move, and is very easy to force out of the closed position. It looks more like #2 but its hard to tell from the picture. Ill take a pic today and post it.

#2 is just the interior door latch. If it is #4 that's bad, your best bet would be to get one from a salvage yard and swap them.

Theres a rubber or plastic sheething on the hoop too that wears down and can cause issues
