I've searched around and haven't read anything helpful. I just bought a 99 eclipse gs n/t it's in ok shape engine and tranny are fresh but some jack ass did a half ass gut job on the interior. Any ways, so I shut off engine get out shut door bam door auto locks. No matter whether it's running or not it locks. I carry an extra key on me just in case. Any one know a way to bypass the auto lock system?

Check the little switch in the door jam(doorjam switch), If this is messed up it can cause this problem. Atleast I would start there it could be a few other things to I don't know.

I had enough door problems. My THEORY!
Check if your door had work done, if it's off color like most 2g's with black door handles LOL it's probably been recently work on. Could be they extended the push rod on the door lock to much and it locks automatically. I had that problem when I work on my door. Just shooting it out there. Since you're saying "running or not" most likely that's the cause. Cause with car door open, start car, door should not lock. 2g's are auto lock when car doors are close and start engine.

Having the same problem, but mine lies with the aftermarket hackjob that the PO did with the Alarm.. do you have an aftermarket alarm?
