This is kinda embarrassing...

But for the past month and a half..i've been opening my car thru the passenger side door...

So here's the thing...
I broke my driver door handle..and got it fix (by myself)

But my dumba** broke some rod connecting to the latch the opens the door from the outside..

Im contemplating whether its a door latch assembly or something else..

I took the broken rod to the dealership and they looked like they had no idea what I was talking about..and told me about a latch assembly within the door and would cost around $350 dollars..... :nono:

I tried all junkyards...online stores...and i found nothing that sells a door latch?

Anyways...does anyone know what part i should buy?

And whats the average cost to get this time of work fix? (labor cost, etc)

PLEASE HELP!!

PS...the door can open from the inside..the problem is the outside..
and nothing is wrong with the door handle itself.

i have a question.. how did you break that rod? i just replaced the door lock actuator on the gst, and i was bendgin those rods back and forth to get them where i needed them. i had to get mine from the dealer and i paid $180 for it. it's really not hard to put in... getting it out is the fun part :thumb:

Very very very long story LOL.

I tried to give yall guys in a nutshell LOL.

Do you know what I replace?

Im not tryna risk me breaking something else haha..

I might just take it to a body shop...

here it is..

as you can see..at the far right..its suppose to be a oval loop that raises the lock mechanism that raises the door latch...

yeah thats it..

the dealership said i can't buy the rod separate..
i have to buy the assembly ... the WHOLE thing..

And i dont know what the assembly is called..thats the million dollar question LOL.

All the junkyards i went to they literally had no doors..
so thats out the question...

my only option is online . . . dont you think ?

ok.... this is the door lock actuator. there are two rods that come attached to it, and then the two rods from the inside door handle hook to this also. this is the old one.

so if i buy a new part like that...does the rods come with it correct?

how much you think a body shop or auto shop would charge me to fix this?

so why did the dealership say a 'door latch' ?

because some folks working at dealerships are idiots :) and i honestly wouldn't take it to a shop. it's semi- labor intensive. i know i busted a couple knuckles and said a few bad words messing with it. but like i said... getting the old one out was the hard part. putting it back in is almost stupid easy. and yes, the new one comes with those 2 rods pictured on my old one. obviously the ones that are attached to the inside door handle do not come with :) but it is called a "door lock actuator" that is it's proper name :thumb:

thanks man..if i could pay you i would LOL.

so i could buy it at like pep boys advance auto?

wheres the best place to buy it? online?

thanks girl* :D and we didn't carry it (advance)... and neither did napa, carquest, or autozone... i ended up just going to the dealer and got one. it's super expensive retail... but i got a discount on mine. but seriously.. electrical parts... you kinda need em to work. LOL. just do a search and see if you can find one online somewhere. if you can find one cheaper, cool... but if not.. you know where you need to go :thumb:

oops sorry about that haha...

Without the discount.. how much was it retail? like a estimate

it was somewhere between the $200-$300 range. but honestly... if you think about it... you're basically buying an OE part... it's gonna be pricey... doesn't matter what kind of car it's for. it's one of those necessary evils :)

haha that true.. thanks!

im going to the dealership tomorrow see how much there asking..!

ill keep you updated if i have any troubles :)

yeah... just let me know if you need help putting that sucker in. i had a beast of a time getting it out. i ended up taking the exterior door handle off and manipulating it out that hole. put the new one back in that hole, and it was smooth sailing from there. just make sure if you get a new one... take the little plastic tabs that hold the rods in the holes they go to first.. it's so much easier putting the rod into that clip and snapping it into place than to try and get the clip with the rod in those tiny little holes with your arm jammed halfway in the door :)
