to get that one SOB 10mm exterior door handle bolt loose, you know the one I'm talking about, the one above the lock. I've tried everything including a 1/4" ratchet and the back of it hits the window glass.

The closed end of a normal wrench works great there. And I have big hands LOL.
I tried a ratcheting boxed wrench but it didn't work. Maybe the ratchet section was too thick. Couldn't get the open end on, kept hitting the lock before it started loosening. Of course the one tool I don't have is a regular 10mm boxed end. Off to hf tomorrow.

If you think getting it out was a pain, wait until you have to put it in. A girlfriend with dainty hands comes in very handy here......What would have taken me 45 minutes as sore arms, takes her 5 minutes. If your stuck on your own though, have a magnetic pick-up tool handy to retrieve the bolt when it falls in the door.

Not looking forward to that. My handle isn't actually broken, I just have a lot of play in the handle. Tried to put a bolt in the slotted section of the handle rod and dropped the bolt. It didn't make it to the bottom of the door. Landed in the latch assembly. I need to pull the latch and retrieve it. So far it hasn't bound up the latch but I don't know exactly where it's at and it could be just a matter of time before it gets wedged in the mechanism.

Your saying you have to pull the handle most of the way up before it pops the door open? And it barely is able to? I've had that issue for years where it wouldn't open the door at all and a friend of mine finally figured it out. He took the white plastic cover plate inside the door off and sprayed pb blaster where the metal rods move when you pull the handle and it's great now. I tired putting a bolt in the slotted section and it worked for a while but was a huge pain to do and eventually stopped working. If you use to big of a spacer it binds the lock too.

That's exactly what my problem is and when I finally got something wedged in there it bound the lock up just like you said. I guess the pb blaster is coming out now. Got my fingers crossed, thanks.

No problem. I had to open my passenger door and reach over and pop the drivers side interior door open for years and it sucks. I gave up on it until my buddy offered to help. Both doors on my eclipse are good now. Still need to tackle the drivers side door on my talon. You may not even need to remove the handle. I did because the spring got messed up from over extending the handle.

I'm definitely going to try the pb blaster first and see what happens. Sure don't have anything to lose.

Man I go through door handle issues every winter. Have gone through 3 driver door handles and 1 passenger side one. Well aware of the passenger opening my door for me. I'm with 2gmitsu where the girl friends tiny hands come in handy. I now have an issue where the door latch rod and handle rod not staying clipped together. Zip tie is holding in place for now to get through winter.

I would love for a vender to put out some metal handles. It'd be worth a pritty penny.

There is someone on here selling a modification kit, have you seen that?

Might as well. We sprayed the lock mechanism with it too. I really didn't think it would fix it, but something was definitly gummed up because it worked great after.

I just thought the slot got worn but the passenger side doesn't get used anywhere near as much as the drivers side. Makes more sense that it's gummed up like you said. At least I hope.

I just did this on each door 4 times last week.
If you buy a set of stubby short small wrenches then the 10mm will work just fine.

With out is its near impossible.

this really speeds it up.. Wear old pants, the F*ing tar from the door will stick to your legs if not.

Use only one bolt per side, i used two and thought wow im so smart the doors open with a feather pulling on it. However the side effect is that you wont be able to "open" your doors with the key, in case the key fob gives out... Thus why i did it 4 time...

* lastly place a piece of paper bewtten the 10mm bolt and the 10mm wrench on install it will wedge it in place so it doesn't fall down, repeatedly.

I'm going to try the pb blaster as suggested by NY 95 and see if that free's things up. If not, I'll pull the handle. Thanks for the tips.
