So i'm replacing the door handles on my car as they are both broken. There is a sensor or something that the clip broke on and it can't snap onto the actual locking unit.

Attached is a picture, and I'm wondering what it actually does, do I need it, and what is it called? Any info you can give me about it would be greatly helpful.

What he said and I think it also has to do with security system.

By the way if you havent checked this out yet I recommend it :) I got done replacing my driver handle and shortly after it just broke again. I got really good at changing out the handles under 1hour. But now I dont have to again...
