Ok i bought a 95 tsi fwd and the Auto tranny is shifting funny. When i drive it seems to downshift for no reason and stay there and wont up shift and from a dead stop it seems to take a while for it to downshift but when i tromp on it it seems to shift fine...i dont know what it is?

Does anyone have a idea?

It could be the shifter itself or the transmission control module that is out of wack. Have someone check out the shifter and see that the sensors are reading right or that the tcm is working correctly.

Why didn't you post in the A/T section. You would probably get more responses there. Also, take the TCU out and check for capacitor leaks. At least it will eliminate one thing.

Try the most logical thing first and service it(change fluid and filter). Might even make sure that it has the right amount of fluid in it also.

Don't have it serviced if it hasn't been serviced before, your just asking for problems. Servicing an automatic transmission that has never been serviced is like cleaning out a 50 year old pipe thats being held together by rust.

Check the fluids first. I would also check to see at what mph your having the most problems. It could be a paper clutch, computer, or a solenoid inside the trans. If anything have a diagnostic run on it.

yea makes sense. i never worked on trannys before but what i have to do is fix iac first then im going to work on the tranny they have to order the iac so im just waiting on that..thanks for the replys i will keep you's posted.

Yeah, dont change your oil and filter in your motor if it has never been changed before either.

Changing the oil and filter in your car is entirely different. It's a must, and if you don't it gets burnt, breaks down, eats your engine, and turns into sludge. The same thing happens with an automatic transmission if you never service it. The problems start after you service it, when you flush away all that sludge thats been holding the moveable parts together inside your trans. Instead of tight fitting filthy parts you have sloppy clean parts and loose bearings. You need that sludge to keep everything together because its already done its damage and removing it will only cause more.

If its been serviced regularly, than go for it; but I still say have a diagnostic run on the trans before you do anything.

Actually roadrunner2176 is right do not change the fluid and filter if you do not have a service record on the tranny. I have seen more then a few trannies go soon after they have been serviced when the have over 60k miles and no previuos service done to them. Some manufactures like Ford advises not to do it. Check the fluid level then have it hooked to a scanner and check for codes.
