hey guys, I finally got my car up and me and my uncle are doing the carrier bearing job on the driveshaft, so we saw both bearings need to be replaced. Then we took the driveshaft off and little drips came out of the transmission. Nothing from the differential.. It was never leaking any fluids in the past???? So what could be the problem? My uncle said that not normal. By the way car is still up because I had to order the front carrier bearing. I have Redline MT90 and Redline 75W90 to change fluids.

I had a seal on the top of my tranny leak. It ran down the front of the tranny and dripped off the bottom. See if yours is really leaking out of the tranny and what part. Good Luck

The driveshaft does not go into your transmission, it goes into the transfer case. And if your car is level it shouldn't lose fluid when you remove the driveshaft.

You may want to do the slip yoke update, Jnz could help you out, runs around 30 dollar for a new yoke and universal joint. The brass plug in the end of the yoke are know to leak.

oh ok yea the car is up but it is leveled, just making sure. So guess its all good, then. Also whats the slip yoke update? Should of known before hand, had to order a front carrier bearing last minute with 2day shipping, just so it can get here by tomorrow, cause im without car :(

Anyways my uncle said joints were good, the rear one had a bit of stiffness in a certain part, but he said it was ok for now.

Thanks for help guys, just needed to make sure about the fluid, cause I thought all the fluid was supposed to splash out once you take the driveshaft off

When you put the driveshaft back in just make sure you at least check the level. It's probably a good idea to just change the fluid anyways.

How much of a pita is it to change the carrier bearing?

heh i remember this thread. Actually i had my uncle do it. He took it to the shop to get the carrier bearings in. Then brought it back home and did it in like 30-40 min. I just helped him keep the whole thing steady. He has those expensive tools so maby thats why it was fast. I think the longest part was dumping the fluids and putting in the new fluids (tranny, xcase, and differential)

I dont mean to bring up old horror stories but I need to do them on my GSX soon and what kind of special tools are you speaking of? I am going to need to do it in my garage with jackstands and no air tools. Thanks.
