Do you need insurance for the race track?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Most race tracks make you sign a waiver when you pay to get in that state that you are racing at your own risk. So if a car gets hit they can't be held liable and I would imagine would also help if someone tried to sue you for hitting them. If I were you I would just go ahead and insure it. I pay around 14 per month for my GSX.

For full coverage!?!!?!!? How old are you and what carrier?!

No thats just for liability. Full coverage would rund me around 30-35 per month. 26, and its through GEICO. I have my 09 Civic through them aswell with full coverage and that one is about 68 per month. I broke down the coverage and compared it to Nationwide, Allstate and State Farm and the coverage was identical just cheaper. It may vary for you depending on the state you live in, age and your insurance credit score.

Just an update, I still haven't heard back from the track (regarding the email I said i would send). I know they close on November 23rd so i doubt I will get a response from them anytime soon if at all.

If I hear back with any answers, I will definitely post them.

Do you sign slmrthing as soon as you enter? In that case no one will sue anyone cause thats a liability form.

Last time I went, which was under different owners, there was a waiver I signed when I went to race. I forgot what it said, but i'm pretty sure it basically said you are racing at your own risk. What happens, happens. I've been this past year to watch, and as a bystander, you just pay for the ticket, you don't sign anything to enter.

Every race track I've been to at least here in NC makes you sign a waiver. They would be stupid not to, the risk of something happening is so great. I would just call and get quotes from insurance companies and directly ask them if they would cover you incase of racing accident.

I have talked to my insurance company and they said they would cover it once but then drop that car from coverage. I just can't tell them i am racing it is what they told me. Sounds kind of sketchy if you ask me. I highly doubt they would actually cover me.

30-35 for liability and 70-80 for full coverage with no tickets on your record and being over 25 sounds about right.

That does seem kind of sketchy. Specially since they want so much information about how and where the accident happened anytime there is a claim.

It was a job you never get to feel good about. Everyone feels what your company offers is over-priced and hates you for rating them, even though they live in a high crime area (auto/home) or have pre-disposition towards congenital heart failure (medical/life).

The only time you render service is when something god-awful has occurred, and that's only if it wasn't denied.

Never again.

You ever hear politicians trying to scare you with phrases like "death panels?" They already exist, with no sort of ethical oversight.. they are called underwriters.

Insurance is a company shoring up its bets on your situation vs. premiums, just like the "house" in gambling. Think that sounds cynical? It's true. They serve their investors, not customers.

You will learn more about humans and habits nowhere else. Tobacco user? Massive rate increase, possible denial of life coverage. Light/Infrequent marijuana users? Well, we'll probably overlook that part of your blood/urine screen if everything else comes back clean.

They don't care about politics or emotion, just science and stats. It's cold and dehumanizing.

It's a big part of why we need a single payer public system, that decouples your insurance from your employer. Folks can argue against it till theyare blue in the face over ideology - not wanting to give handouts to "moochers" and the like, but it just demonstrates how clueless they are or that they stand to make money of the system as it currently operates.

The ACA was perverted by insurance lobbies and a certain party that doesn't want a victory of any sort for the other team. It was ham-stringed.. but because no honest alternative was put forward, it may provide the start to a dialogue needed for a proper, nationalized healthcare system being devised in the next decade.

Like, you know.. every other first world nation.

Being dropped from coverage or had your rates raised? That is not the ACA (Obamacare! Hurrdurr) doing it to you. Those provisions dont come effective till next year. It is the insurance companies squeezing everyone while they can, because they can. The fight is not over, and things will be rocky as these entitites will not go quietly.

There is an even bigger political implication, but I'll save that for someone looking to have an honest nuanced conversation about it. Not going to happen on a public car forum.. Anywho..

Since when does an insurance company test you for drugs in your system?

That would be a big F*** you isurance company to me..This isnt getting hurt at work and having to get tested. This is is im paying you ,for something so dont ask me questions.

Nearly every one of them Bud. Drugs, particularly the illegal kind are, well.. illegal and many are known to shorten your life span and impair judgement.

For any sort of substantial health/life/disability policy you will be taking a a cheek swap if not also blood and/or urine test.

Checking for drugs/narcotics, HIV/AIDs, Cholesterol, Diabetes/Pre-diabetes, blood/urinary protein, etc.

Ohh health insurance ok i got ya.That makes alot more sense now.

What happens if say you lived in washington state or colorado. Wait i can probably answer that. They dont care right?

Crash while DWI/DUI, and you can bet your policy is not going to cover it. Do it more than once in your life and expect to be in a high-risk pool.. that is if the first offense didn't land you there or un-insurable if you have other violations.

That contract you signed has expectations for both parties.

Let me translate that for you as a former insurance agent: "We want that premium to roll in all the way until the day you crash at the track and deny you."

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... I have Allstate and they are pretty cheap right now for me at least. I pay 570 every six months for full coverage on my grad prix, and then add 111 every six months for my F-250 (liability only). I don't see a need anymore to get insurance on the talon if it's not going to be on the road. I live outside the limits of a small town that has very little anyways so I'm not worried about theft too much. I'll just have to deal with it if there is a fire of a storm and it gets damaged.
