Has anyone else experienced serious and instant boost creep on a stock setup?? I went through all the steps to ensure creep was what I had. My wastegate was not opening far enough. The actuator didn't have enough travel to keep the creep away. I took out the cotter pin and removed the actuator from the flapper and still got 5 psi boost at 5K. I thought that was pretty good. But 20 with it hooked up was bad.
Ok, i know I said stock above, but there is some minor port work done to valve pockets, 2g manifold, and 14b turbine housing. All of those things as well as the entire combustion chamber are coated with a ceramic thermal barrier as well.
I'm not really looking for opinions on what was wrong and how to fix it (because it's already fixed), but whether ONLY the mods listed above could cause that serious creep (assuming all else is stock and working properly.)
To make this a two part question, I mentioned my actuator had insufficient stroke to allow the flapper to open until it hits the housing inside. I'm not sure, but is this normal? I think the actuator was working properly. Do all 14b's have actuator stroke limit before flapper to housing contact limit?? What is the stroke of your 14b or 16g wastegate actuator? Mine was 10mm. The flapper needs 25mm to go from fully closed to fully open on my turbo.
Finally for a three part question, what is a common/recommended repair for insufficient wastegate actuator stroke? Are there aftermarket long-stroke actuators? ( I already fixed mine via a custom mechanical linkage.) Thanks, and sorry for the long post.
