Do I need upgraded pads with slotted and drilled rotors?

I was looking into buying slotted and drilled rotors that fit with out replacing the calipers. Do I need upgraded pads also? If so where and what kind should I get? Perferably the "dustless" kind.

Alot of great info and help. Thanks for everyones input so far. My main reason to replace the stock rotors were becuase they look like crap, they are rusty and if I am going to spend money on new rotors then I might as well upgrade. I still am undecided with weither or not I am going with drilled brembo rotors or powerslot rotors. I might play it safe and stick with the powerslot rotors but then again, someone on here bought the brembo rotors that I am currently looking into buying and he has had them on there for 6 months I beleive he posted with no problems. I guess this is going to be a hit or miss item. If I buy a set from joe smo then yes they will crack, if I buy them from brembo, they could still be defective and crack on me. I will keep you updated on if I buy the brembo rotors off ebay.

Personally, I'll only ever go with slotted or solid rotors... I've been witness to what happens when a drilled rotor is heated too high with full braking pressure. May have been a manufacturing defect, may have just been too much stress, but the guy in the Civic hatch I was following (EK9) essentially had his passenger front rotor go off like a bomb. Took out the rotor, caliper, control arm, I believe damaged the mount from the shock, and pierced his rim... but left the tire alone. Was the funniest part, as none of us could find anything wrong with the tire aside from it being flat, all the air having escaped through the ripped-open rim.

I bought a set of cross-drilled/slotted front rotors on ebay almost 3 years ago(didn't know much then), but they are still in great condition, and my braking is very solid. My car isn't a daily driver, but when it gets drove, it is drove hard. Just my 2cents on the rotor theory!

WOW 3 years on drilled brakes! I guess drilled brakes aren't all bad after all.

Hey now here is a real question......... has anyone every broke or shattered just slotted rotors? Has anyone ever had a single problem with them?

Drilled rotors aren't bad per se...the biggest problem with them is when you buy one that started it's life as a solid rotor and then a shop just drills some holes in it (I'm not saying all shops are like that. I know some can do real profesional work), resulting in a weaker rotor that is more prone to shattering. Then there are the ones that are built from the factory like a drilled rotor, and those are made using special techniques and manufacturing process than a solid rotor.

But I preffer to be on the safe side of things, even more when we're talking about brakes, so that's why I don't like drilled rotors too much... :)

Slotted rotors will work just fine for you. I have never heard or had any problems with slotted rotors. Also, most cracked drilled rotors I have seen happened in track. You said the majority of driving you will be doing is going to be in the street, so if you really like the looks of drilled rotors, then go for it. But I'd personally would buy slotted and be done with it.

But I remember you, just changing your pads will make the biggest improvement in your braking power...

People drove Chevettes for over 3 years without problems too...

Slotted rotors are not known to crack/shatter under street driving. I have slotted on my SVX (3600 lbs +) and have brought it down repeatedly from 100-5-100-5 etc without any problems. That said, i also go through pads like no other. I've already told you my personal preferences of blank rotors with good pads. If you just want them for the look, just get slotted and a ceramic pad.

Thanks for all the info from everyone. I like to ask alot of questions and find out everything before buying stuff. I like to hear both sides of the story basically. I can say I will be buying hawk pads. But until I actually pay for the rotors its still a toss up.

I also have Brembo drilled and slotted with Ebc's all the way around for over a year now and I've never had a problem with them. All I can say is that the day they were swapped out for the stockers I felt a huge difference in stopping power immediately (could've also been because my pads were worn and my rotors were warped LOL ).
