I'm on the verge of buying a 16g upgrade for my 97' Eagle Talon Tsi and I'm looking at getting the car to 300hp. I just wanted to know how much PSI you think that would take and if I need an EMS... My friend keeps telling me I NEED an EMS, but I don't know what to do...

You don't need an EMS. Have you taken a look at the upgrade path for your 2G? That's a pretty good guide for upgrades.

As far as engine management upgrades, you can save yourself 1,000 and go with an S-AFC. An EMS is not necessary to reach 300 hp with these engines.

Yea, check out your upgrade path. Its a good start for you. Like he said an AFC will be good for you. With the 16g you should have no problem getting 300hp with some tuning. So get yourself an AFC,and a logger for a start. Good Luck

I saw the upgrade paths, but I just wanted to verify. How much psi do you think I would have to run to get 300, and will I really need the AFC for 300hp??

For your car to run properly and deliver the right amount of fuel, then your answer is yes, you do.

Well since you planning on putting a 16g in your car i'm assuming you're also planning on putting on 550cc injectors, a fuel pump, and maybe an fpr. Anytime you upgrade something in your fuel system you're going to need something to control it, so like he said if you want your car to run right you will need an afc and a logger.

I was told I could run a 16g with stock injectors, but a new fuel pump is recommended.

You CAN, but if you want to hit your 300 whp goal, your going to need to add some fuel and also have some form of A/F control.

Yes you do. Tuning is the most important part for anyone who is looking to reach the level they want. I'd get a pump too-a 190 should do. It's relatively cheap too. As people say, "You gotta pay to play."

why doesn't anybody recommend using the MAFT for tuning?

Because things like DSMlink, and widebands, are more efficient, because it provides more than the GM/MAFT...and this is coming from a guy who has the GM/MAFT ROFL . I mean, don't get me wrong, I like it, but I doesn't take away the need for other things i.e. SAFC 2, logger, etc. Also, the MAFT gets you "in the ball park" value wise, but we want dead on accuracy. :thumb:

Overall, it's okay, it's a decent buy. However, keep in mind that if you do get one, do NOT get the impression that that is all you need.
