Do I need an AFPR?

Hey guys,

Sorry I did some searching but didn't get any clear answers.. I'm pretty clueless on fuel systems. I understand that an afpr is used to control the amount of fuel the pump puts out.. however I am not sure if I need one or not.

Here is my soon to be setup:
EVOIII 16g
650cc FIC injectors
255lph in-tank walbro fuel pump
SAFC-II
MAF-T
AEM Wideband
AEM digital boost controller

Hoping to be pushing about 16-20 psi safely

An AFPR regulates fuel pressure, and is adjustable. Usually when people upgrade to something like a 255 or bigger the stock FPR can't bleed off enough fuel to the return line and the regulator becomes overrun, and the problem gets worse with time. Some will claim that overrun is impossible saying they run 2x 255 pumps on a stock FPR, I call lies. I would get one just for the peace of mind, and they aren't much more than a stock on in terms of money dumped into mods.

With the 255 walbro you will need an afpr.

Edit: I'm too slow, good post ramsack.

Most people will get on here and say it is a must. I have been running a stock 2g FPR for over 2 years with a Walbro 255 high pressure pump and have had no fuel pressure issues. Even with a cheap SMP aftermarket Autozone one it holds dead on 43-44psi of fuel pressure at idle and no boost all the time. However, if you have no way to measure the fuel pressure, they are nice to have in that sense. I have a gauge mounted on my fuel filter. There really isn't much need for an AFPR because if you are having to raise fuel pressure, you probably need to just get bigger injectors in the first place.

Thanks everyone!

Like I said I searched but had no clear answers (some say no, some say yes.)

Guess I will be picking one up then. I understand the Aeromotive A1000 is pretty popular. Anyone have any ideas on which fittings I will need? I am just going to use the stock lines instead of braided SS.

Any one of our vendors on this site can get you a kit with fittings, line and regulator. Check them out.
