Do I have right data cable for Palm?

That circuit must have been for a PC :)
But keep in mind that passive datalogger cables won't work with all serial ports. The signal they present to the computer isn't RS232 by any stretch of the imagination.

I switched the pins around and it worked.
Here's the new circuit that works with my palm m100 and MMCd.

If you built it from the first circuit and it didn't work with your PC when you put a female connector on, I don't expect switching the pins will fix it. The second schematic works with a palm hotsync cable.

I'm a little worried about what connectors your using on your laptop. The only DB 25 connectors I'm seen on laptops were for their parallel port to connect a printer. The DB15 is for video. You said at the beginning you had a DB9. What laptop is it.

When you rebuilt your cable to put the female connector on did you wind up changing the pin that had the diode attached?

The laptop Im using is a 2002 Compaq Presario 700, I dont have a db9 sierial port on this thing. Only ports it has are db15(video) db25(printer) 2/PS2 and 2/USB So your saying the first diagram you came up with that I used to put my cable togeather was correct for pc. I guess my db9 to db25 converter is whats not working here. Originally my logger cable came with a female end which today I swapped a male db9 onto and soldered all the connections as in the first diagram you posted.

Well what are my options now

You can't use the printer port for this. It's a parallel interface not serial, so your DB9 to DB25 adaptor isn't going to work. My quick check of Compaq's site confirms that the 700 doesn't have a serial port so that laptop isn't going to be of much use for datalogging.

Ok well, I got a few laptops laying around the shop ill see if I can scumbag one. Thats for all the help steve. However the original diagram you posted first, (the one I used to make my cable) should work on a laptop if it has a db9 serial port? and all ya gotta do to make it work with palm is change the gender and switch pins 2 and 3. God this stuff seems so simple.
