Do 1G's have three different flywheels?

I have searched for quite a while on this forum and have a question that I cannot find. I realize that a N/T Flywheel (GS) is different from a Turbo Flywheel. My question: is there a difference between a Turbo Flywheel (GST)and an AWD Turbo Flywheel (GSX)?

What I am actually trying to do is replace my N/T transmission in my 90 GS with a Turbo (GST) transmission for reasons of longevity. I have acquired the GST transmission but am in the market for a used lightweight flywheel and possibly a clutch assembly. Most of what I am finding is AWD flywheels and am wondering if they will work for my application.

NO!! THEY DON'T, the n/t, turbo fwd and awd are all different!

The fwd turbo the awd turbo and a 3si non turbo all use the same flywheel and clutch. hope this helps. i went through all this when i put my turbo transmission in

the n/t turbo flywheel is small- the gst flywheel will not fit inside a n/t bellhousing!

Gingerbredmann00: What you said was already stated. In other words it was mentioned in the original posting that I knew there was a difference between the N/T and the GST flywheels. The question at hand is whether or not there is a difference between the GST and the AWD (GSX) Flywheels.

You actually have 6 different flywheels for a 1g

6 bolt NT
6 bolt FWD Turbo
6 bolt AWD Turbo

7 bolt NT
7 bolt FWD Turbo
7 bolt AWD Turbo

and probably another option for the 1.8L but I have never had to take one of those apart.

Thanks for the info. Then is it safe to say I CANNOT use a 6 Bolt AWD Turbo Flywheel for my 6 Bolt FWD Turbo swap in my 6 Bolt NT car?

You are correct, the AWD flywheel is smaller in diameter to give some extra room for the output shaft that goes into the transfer case.

all i can say is i have a awd flywheel in in my car with a turbo fwd trans and a turbo fwd clutch.

Clutches are the same for all the turbo models, but I find it hard to believe that you have an AWD flywheel in your FWD bellhousing and the starter engages properly(or at all).

Not trying to start an argument, but something doesn't add up with that equation.

I refuse to argue! this forum is for helping people not proving who is right. so your best bet is to run a fwd turbo flywheel with a fwd turbo transmission and a fwd turbo starter plate.

The 1.8 is similar I don't know if they are identical, They are both a flat flywheel I do know that for sure.

Not sure on the size of the 1.8 flywheel, but I know for sure, that it only uses 5 bolts to mount to the crank

i had a 1990 plymouth laser FWD given to me a while back and just the other day i got offered an 1990 eagle talon tsi with the engine blown, just wondering if it was possible for me to swap my fwd engine with my awd engine both of them are turbo charged
