I am in, Rhode Island
Like i said in the vid, i made this to test out a new camera. I didn't really intend this to be posted, but some people might find this vid useful to remove the baffle from their VC.

Safety glasses are a lot cheaper than a trip to the hospital.

You're talking to a guy who welds in flip flops. :p

A few years ago i had metal surgically removed from my eye, it was a good time. I always wear glasses when using a grinder, but almost never wear them for drilling. You're right though, i should be more careful about that.

I just got the VC back from the welder and the hose barbs look too high. I might run into hood clearance issues. Time will tell.

Why would you put hose barbs on your VC.. yuck LOL... Its at least at a 90 degree angle correct? any pics?

No yuck, it's not going to be ghetto. Yes they're 90 degree

I'll post pics when the VC is done, probably in a couple weeks after powder coating.

Oh man, that's my biggest fear. I freak out when I get dust in my eye. I do the welding in flip flops and shorts too. Had a bit of slag bounce down my shorts and hit the important bits one time. That's why I wear safety glasses, the one in a million shot happens to me, never in a good way.

Hope they don't hit the hood. Any chance you can cut them down? Are you going to be doing a dry sump or have a crankcase vacuum on there? Are you going to add a new baffle or screen to keep the oil flung from the camshafts from getting in there? I'm not too familiar with the PCV systems, but those seem like issues to me.

Good luck.

No dry sump or anything too crazy, this is a street/strip car, so i'm trying to keep things as reliable as possible. It's not my DD, but its primary function is street duty.

I fabbed a custom catch can with a breather that mounts in front of the passengers front tire (in the side of the bumper), so that's where the lines from the VC are headed.

As far as the baffle, i plan to retain the factory baffling. My thought is, a lot of R&D went into the original design, so it will probably function better than anything i slap together. I'm going to pick up some aluminum washers and have the baffle rosette welded back in. Something like this i would rather pay a little to have done professionally, than risk the engine if it fails.

Got the VC media blasted and reinstalled the baffle by drilling and tapping each of the factory mount points (had my machinist do this with a milling machine), putting a screw in and then tack-welding each screw to the factory baffle to make sure they never vibrate loose.

We decided on the screws over the rosette welds because the machinist didn't think the rosette welds could be done without damaging the baffle. The material is just too thin.

I'm trying to get this thing to the track ASAP, and didn't want to wait for the turn around time from the powder coater, so i'm just slapping a few coats of paint on it and calling it a day.

These pictures are just self etching primer, i'm not painting my valve cover duck-shit-green.:barf:

i've found contacts to be a worthy replacement for safety glasses and have had a lot of metal fly into my eye from grinders and other things.

Still pretty sketchy. Why risk so much when it takes 2 sec to put on some safety glasses.
Nice vid btw
