difference between td05 and tdo4

hey guys. im about to go buy some parts from this dude and he says that he hays a very low mileage td04 turbo from a jdm motor. what is the difference between this turbo and the stock one in my 93 talon tsi. DO you think i should buy it from him?

The TD04-13G is the turbocharger used on automatic 1st generation (1G) DSMs. Compared to the TD05H-14B from the manual cars, the 13G has a smaller compressor and turbine housings, as well as smaller turbine and compressor wheels.

13G's spool slightly faster but have much less top-end than a 14B. If you already have a 14B, you don't want this turbo. If you already have a 13G, you only want this one if yours is blown or on its way out.

tdo4 refers to the turbine housing i thought, anyways, stick with tdo5's cuz there is a lot more aftermarket for those for our cars.... i might be completely wrong, but to read up on mitsu turbos go to....(goes to link and starts reading for a couple hours...) o yea sorry, here it is

It refers to the turbine wheel and the compressor cover, specifically. It can also tell you the bolt pattern for the turbine housing - for example, a TD04HL will not work on a DSM (without extensive modification.)

What do you mean, you can make just about any turbo work on any car.

Yes, but you'll need to take out the fire ring and get smaller banjo bolts for the water and oil lines.

If you already have a TD05H, why downgrade to a TD04?

well i have a td04 with everything with it together, oil lines,exhaust mani, o2 housing, ect. And someone with a td05 that burns oil wants my td04.

any turbo will work on any car, (with a few bucks backing your wants up)

ive seen sti turbos on a 3000gt.... and...

an evo8 turbo on a 1g
