Difference between GSX and Tsi AWD

Hey guys, I've been contemplating on whether or not to sell my 98 Eclipse n/a. If I did sell it, I woudl get either a GSX or a Tsi AWD. Ok, from what I've researched a little, do you guys think I could find a Tsi AWD for cheaper than a GSX? What, if any, differences are there between a GSX and a Tsi AWD other than the body style? In your opinion guys, which do you think I should go with, being only 16 and kinda short on cash? Thanks for the help in advance guys.

I can't speak for every region, but in South Florida, Talons are generally cheaper than Eclipses.

Also, Talons and Eclipses of the same trim level only have cosmetic differences between them. Other than that, they are the same cars.

yes...the differences are cosmetic. Mitsubishi is like the "brand name" compared to Eagle therefore if you bought a Talon tsi you would be getting the same excellent car but cheaper .

Talons are usually alot cheaper, on insurance also. my 91 awd talon has lower insurance than my 93 eclipse 1.8.

Tsi's are definetly going to be cheaper. I work at a dealership, and i can tell you the trade in value for my car a 98 tsi is about 3500, while a gsx is still at about 5-6k. Plus insurance is hell of alot cheaper. For the gsx i was quoted just under 3gs. When i took a qoute for the Tsi im at 1100 for the year!!!

Would parts from like a GSX fit onto a Tsi AWD? I mean like exhaust's and other motor components? Also like BOV's and turbo's specifically "made" for just like a GSX. (By "made" I mean like when it states in an item descrition that it would fit a GSX and nothing else)

edit: well except body kits.... for body ktis you need to do the eclipse conversion.. but the conversion is no work as it is just replacing it with anotehr stock part pretty much.

I noticed that the Talons are a bit cheaper to buy compared to an Eclipse but at the same time its a lot harder to find the Talons than the Eclipses. And being 16 you might want to see how much your insurance will be on this car. And if your short on cash what are you going to do when something breaks because it will. Im not trying to discourage you because thats what I did, I bought an RS first and then I sold it and bought a GSX, and now I love every minute of driving my car. But good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thats what I did too. I bought a RS when i was 16, insurance was as much as the payments!!!! But i would never take it back, I fell in love with it and now i sold it to get money for school (big mistake ) but now im looking for a GSX ### im a little older and want something faster and something i can put my time into to make better to show my love but the hole insurance/repair thing is big on these cars....but i can promise you wouldnt regret getting one!!!!

Since I already have my GS, I've already kinda grown sick of it. Plus its an automatic. I really want either a GSX or a Tsi AWD, and I found out that a talon would be cheaper. However, I might end up doing an eclipse conversion to it if I got one. So far I found a 5 speed 96 Tsi AWD with 120,000 miles on it for $5,999 at a dealer near me. What do you guys think? Yes like everyone else, I say Talons are way cheaper. as for shape, yes you want one that is at least maintained decent unless you want to rebuild soon. I would shoot for less than 100k if you plan on spending $5000.

Yeah I know somethings going to go wrong which is why at the moment if I got that Talon above, I would still have like 3 g's in my bank account after sellin my GS. See, theres another Tsi AWD at the same shop in the cars.com listing with less than 100k miles. Only problem is that its an automatic and $1000 more. well my first car witch is a camaro I thought i wanted a 6 speed but ive since built it into a show and strip car and swapped to an auto cause no one can out shift a computer. But I like my talon with the 5 speed being a street car.Just depends some of my friends hate shifting everyday I love it nothing like grabbing a gear on 25lbs

Also, my mom keeps tellin me she wouldnt want me to buy an older car after I sell mine. However, my dad wouldnt let me get a GSX that we test drove before I bought the GS. No fair, he had so much fun in it and I would have too. I got to drive it for a while and loved hearing the turbo spool up but thats a different story. So anyway, instead of just saying its like a GSX, I just keep stressing the fact that the insurance is cheap on it. We'll see how that goes, and see if the 'rents eventually approve. You never know, maybe I can get them so help me out when I buy it, you know throw some money to pay for some of it. Oh the joys of still being young and living at home.

Yeah thats basically the reason why dear ol dad said no to a GSX right now. Only because he said I would have been caught speeding doing 80mph in a 35 instead of 62 like I was. He also keeps saying that I wont get a GSX until I'm on my own insurance, so a Tsi AWD is the answer. It's not a GSX, but basically the same thing. Oh well, I have to find a buyer for my n/a before I go to far with this route. Also, my front bumper is all f**cked up from the previous owner, you guys think I should buy a new one before I try and sell it or sell it like it is?

I heard the BIG ONE from 14 to 17 when i moved out my first dsm was a laser rs built her for looks and some power being that it wasnt turbo, then she got smashed by a 18 ton enima now my headache my rst trying to find a gsx to swap with that has blown motor, but ohh the countless hours put into tweaking stuff is amazing you will love it unless you get the BIG ONE.

The main thing you want to do, especialy people getting the turbo model, is dont rush. I know it kills you when theres something you want so bad you cant stand it. DONT sweat if its a Talon or Eclipse, find one with as much documentation as you can. Mainly timming belts, a new cylinder head if it was bad, tranny, etc.. If a person says this and that is new, whith out GOOD reciepts its a gamble. So try to find one with as many newer parts and correct documents as possible.

If you try to save a thousand, it will cost you 2!

ITs kinda a far drive from MD, and I dont think pops would be up for it just to look at a car. Maybe I'll just keep a look out around here for one and just save up my money now and by the end of the summer i could probably save almost $4000 and then I could sell the GS and have a nice chunk of change for a new ride. I'm an impulse shopper though, with whatever I'm buying. I hate having to wait for something because I waited for so long to get the GS and I dont wanna have to wait for something again even though I know I will. Oh well, I guess I'm not getting a Tsi very soon then. Damn, I think I just talked myself down from being all excited........damn.

This might sound rediculous but Im starting to wonder if your ready for one of these cars??? There alot of maintence and repairs can be costly. 9 times out of 10 if you buy a used dsm and do not know how to work on it, its gonna cost ya. $$$

yeah I dont think your ready if you buy a dsm for 4 or under most of the ones around heres need 1 to2 grand put into to them and the harder you are the more you need to spend and by talking the way you are.I think youd pay for repairs and things I mightbe wrong but you should wait till. Even though there different names your dads still going to feel the same power and say no just my 0.02 cents

Also to everyone here; TSi AWD's and GSX's are the exact same thing.... it is just like the Dodge stealth's and the 3000GT VR4/GTO's, the exact same, just a different name, slightly different body and big price jump. Anyone that knows about DSM's or all know that Diamond Star Motors are Chryco/Mitsu Hybrids, 90-94 Plymouth Lasers, Eagle Talon's, and Mitsu Eclipses are the same as 1st gen's as they are for 2nd gen TSi's and GSX's, the biggest differences are, yes, the body and some other cosmetic differences. Personally, I love the Talons, Eclipses are a dime a dozen, but how often do you see Talons in general, not too often. I am one of 4 AWD's in about several tens of thousands here in JAX, NC, so there you go. When you look for parts, if you can't find it for Eagle or Plymouth, look it up for Mitsu, guaranteed to find it 90% of the time there, 1st or 2nd gens regardless. Trust me on that one, and also: Jayman089, be a man, make your own desicions bro, you are not going to be under your parents wings forever, so, yeah, get a TSi AWD, but just to let you know, the Class for 2nd gen AWD's, Talons or Eclipses, doesnt matter, my sister in law is a certified insurance agent, she looked up all the stats, the safety codes and class codes are the same, so it all goes on age, driving experience, and types of insurance and the car, but it all varies from state to state, do your homework then..... hope this helps.....

If you buy a TSi AWD Talon, you will have these differences compared to a GSX:

1) Front Bumper Cover will have Talon logo on it
2) Rear Bumper Cover will be lower
3) Tail Lights will be taller
4) Headlights will be different (if you buy the 97-99 Eclipse)
5) Spoiler will be a high rise or low one, but not the basket handle one that everyone with GSTs/GSXs like
6) Driver side airbag will have different logo
7) Spark Plug cover won't have "Mitsubishi" on it
8) Wheels will have the Eagle logo
9) Side strakes (of whatever those things on the doors that go up at an angle are called)
10) No side skirt (depending on year)
11) If you take your headliner off the Talon will have buttons, the eclipse has bolts
12) Interior cloth/design will be different

That is it, the differences are cosmetic. You can change a Talon to an Eclipse, or an Eclipse to a Talon. It will cost you about $300 to get all the holes welded and covered that you get from taking out the side "starkes", yes I got an estimate. I like the Talon spoiler more than the Eclipse one and I couldn't find a GSX, so I'm keeping my Talon spoiler and puting a drift body kit and Eclipse tail lights. I am doing a complete Talon to Eclipse conversion except the spoiler (I guess it is not a complete conversion then). I love my damn spoiler.

In the end, they are the same cars, BUT blue book value on the Talon is less than an Eclipse (if you want to get a bank loan for it), and they sell cheaper than Eclipses. I paid $7750 for mine last August with 53xxx miles from a guy who owned it and worked at a local Mitsubishi dealership. It was a person to person sale, no dealership involved. And most people don't know what the hell a Talon is, the Talon has all Mitsubishi stickers in the engine bay and door jams.
