Like the title says, I'm looking to not waste money on an ECU I can't use. I have a 94 FWD NT that is going to get the 6-bolt turbo put in it from my 92 GS-T. I know what I need mechanicly, but I see a lot more 91-93 AWD ecus for sale than I do 94 FWD turbo ECUs. I figure I'd just leave the evap/purge system "as-is", with a couple of check-valves added, and ignore the FP vacuum solenoid.

Anyone got any advice? 5-spd., BTW.

You are better off with a 1991/92 Turbo ECU IMO, as they don't have all the emissions stuff that the 1994 ECU's have. The maps are identical from year to year, but vary very slightly from AWD to FWD. Not enough to worry about. The only good part of 1994 ECU's is that they don't have leaking caps. :)

That is more like the info I was really looking for. I guess I could have been clearer, but hell, keep it comin'. Thanks.

I'm also asking if the pin-outs are all the same. Will a 91 AWD ECU snap into my 94 2.0 GS without having to make any changes to my harness? I am aware of the need for the knock-sensor wire and the difference between injector impedences, but I want to make as few changes to this car as possible. I'm likely to hold-out for a FWD MT turbo ECU, but the car is a '94. I'm just hoping to avoid having to switch any pins in the ECU plugs.

The turbo ECUs are a superset of the 2.0L NT ECUs as far as pinout. Only 90's had actual signals moved to different pins. Things I can remember off hand that 1G 2.0L NT's don't have.

Knock Sensor
MAF Reset
Boost Gauge
Fuel Pressure Solenoid

Thanks Steve. I figure I'm gonna try to get away with adding only a knock sensor wire. If I need it to kill a CEL, I'd add a FP solenoid in the console, under the radio. I'd just leave it wired, but not plumbed in. What exact situation does that solenoid even do anything for?

Unlike 2Gs, the 1G ECU won't throw a CEL is the FPS isn't attached so if your not going to use it you don't have to hook it up.

If you want to know what it's for please read the 1G technical manual. You'll find lots of other good information too.

Wow this is exactly what I was looking for! But my only question is, am I better off converting my ecu to eprom or buying an eprom ecu and then installing ecmlink? I have a 1g es with evo3 swap. (yes it's an evo3 apart from what people think LOL).

That really depends on the condition of your ECU and any EPROM ECU you might be considering.
The ECMLink conversion is top shelf but if your existing ECU is corroded your better off starting over.

Sorry for semi hi jacking thread but It's part of the same topic.. It's starting to corrode since I checked it out before I took my car out of storage. Starting over with a new eprom 1g ecu, would there be any drawbacks, apart from needing a little more fine tuning with ecmlink?

There is no functional difference between a converted non-EPROM and a factory EPROM ECU.
So your question doesn't make any sense.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant by buying a eprom ecu from another 1g will not cause any negative affects? From what I know, it won't but I want to make sure!
