Did i mess up my tb shaft seals?

alright so i bought the new o-rings and fallowed the guide. and when i put it all together i had a worse problem. now my car wont run cause of how much air is coming out of the tps.. its really bad leak

best option would be to disassemble it to see if they are not damaged or something.

Check to see if you damaged the TB seals during installation. It tough to get those o rings installed, it took me 2 sets to get it right. I ended up clamping the second set with a small worm clamp and freezing them overnight. It dropped right in place the following day, it took only seconds to install. Also check to make sure you didn't damage the throttle plate. It's made from a really soft brass type metal. If you did, then its time to go shopping at the local junk yard.

When you installed the seals, did you use a type of lubricant to ease the seals in? Home Depot has a Danco waterproof grease by the o-ring section and comes in a small gray container last time I saw it. You sould always use a lubricant when installing any type of o-ring to prevent dry rub damage.

I would never use o-ring just get seals and do it right the first time. I rebuld throttle bodies give me a pm if you need any help.

O-rings are a completly viable seal to use in the TB. Danco #7 o-rings to be exact.

Regardless if you are using the Rawhide brand, Viton or an o-ring, you should still use a lubricant upon installation to prevent damage and help make an air tight seal.


So AWDTalon, what do you use to rebuild the 1g N/T TBs?


Also, Snowboarder714 rebuilds TBs at a reasonable price as well.

Overall it's not all that diffictult to do.

Use o-rings if you want, its just something i would never do. I have done one n/t throttle body with no problems at all.

I personally will never use o-rings either. Seals are cheap enough and easy to find that there should be no reason unless you need it done now and don't have any way to get seals.

I usually use dielectric grease on the seals when I install them, per one of the VFAQ articles.

On my first TB I did use seals, but the N/T I used o-rings and it seals perfectly on 14psi. I'll check the pressure again when I put the HX40 on and see if it'll hold 35psi.

i just pressed mine in and when i put the shaft in i sprayed it with silicone lubricant. no leaks. i wouldn't use o-rings either unless like snowboarder said you need it done right away, but these leaking aren't going to make your car not run.

well son of a....i wish i saw that first it didnt say it on the vfaq i fallowed.. i most likely put it open side out.. well time to go tear it apart and see if thats whats wrong.. ill post on here if it was

pulled it all out and i forgot to tighten the nut under the tps so i tightned it and now imma see if it fixed it
