I'm picking up a built motor with a set of delta 280 cams with upgraded springs and retainers used. I'm planning on running the Fp HTA 68 and was thinking that these cams might be too aggressive for my street and occasional drag strip.
I'm thinking that with the lag from the HTA 68 these cams won't really help since I'm not really looking to rev past 8k. So my thinking is to swap out the 280s for the 272s to help the spool time.

i think youre right on track, but im no cam expert with the 4g. im assuming you are getting a built 2.0, not a 2.4? were it the latter, id say keep the 280s, but 272 should pick you up some mid range and spool for sure if it is not a 4g64 or stroker variant.

you could always keep the 280s and try degreeing the cams a bit advanced to pick up some low end, but i think youd suffer drivability more than anything at that point.

If you're not wanting to rev past 8k I'd def say pick up a nice set of 272s. My build is for the same purposes but probably a little more strip time and I'm going with kelford 272s or gsc s2s. These won't do heck of a lot better on the spool but definitely a good difference and a lot better mid range powerband

Leave the cams. The power placement is atleast 10 times more sensitive to turbo than cams.
This is very true, but for his application and the fact he doesn't want to rev past 8k he could sell the 280s and pick up some nice used 272s that would fit his needs better and probably pocket some left over money for other things. I'm not against what you said at all though bc you're right. But a faster spooling turbo applied with cams that make better power on the low end would benefit him more I would think. Correct me if I'm wrong though bc I've learned a lot from your posts:thumb:

I agree with the above, the 280s will be more useful in the high range but if they're stock lift you can't do too much wrong by keeping them as they are or going 272 with higher lift. It depends on how aggressive the profile is.
