if i get a set of BC or HKS 280 cams do i have to change anything else in my engine? do i need like a performance head? pistons upgrades? head work?

If you use 280 cams you're going to need stronger than stock springs. So if your head has stock valve springs, you'll need an upgrade as said on the ad you saw the 280 cams listed on.

If you are running a stock engine, I would check to see what the max lift the valve springs can handle and make sure the cams don't exceed that lift. hdoerr said it correctly though, if you're stock, these cams are overkill. Also, you'd need to get it tuned. That brings up a whole new list of things to buy.

all i got is a 6bolt stock block and and 6bolt stock head. thats why im asking what needs to be done. i didn't think you could just throw it in and go.

also thanks interex

LTUDSM: HKS don't make 270 cams they make 272 cams, and you can use the stock valve train if you don't rev it over the stock redline, if going above that you must have upgraded valve springs and retainers.

stealth_eclipse: for 280 cams upgraded valve springs and retainers are a must, but you don't get any gains over 272 cams until you are using a stroker engine or rev a 2.0lt to the 9000rpm range otherwise stick to 272's and don't forget to degree them ,especially the BC cams.

If you dont mind me asking, what do you mean by 'degree' them. I've been looking into cams, for a little bit later down the road, but i don't know enough about them yet.
