A while back I purchased a Dejon modified stock sidemount for my old 91 TSI AWD since then I got rid of the car sold the SMIC setup in which I've never used and got a nice 2g.....

I remember the 1g cores being a decent size and the outlets suck where-as the 2g's core is small and the outlets are a fair size....

So I have a chance to puchase back my old Modded SMIC that was setup for a 1g(not available for 2g's)for a very very decent price and was wondering if anyone thinks that it would be worth it???

As of right now motor is getting built back to stock-ish, and will be running the t-25 for a little while for break in purposes then possibly switching to a 14b in near future....

Just need a little input from anyone who has/had this sidemount....I know I could get a MKIV Supra core but I'm not into cutting this car more than what I need to.....

I have one and I love it, currently running an E3 16g with it.:rocks:

I'm not sure how the 1g compares to the 2g though if thats what your asking.

A 2g person was what I was lookin for b/c they do not offer them for 2g's only 1g's. But since you managed on putting it on your car was there any modification that you had to perform??? Do any bolt holes line up, or are the pipes just holding it in place???

Does the sidemount heatsoak a lot on you or no?? I also see your from florida where-as I'm in PA which is a major difference in climates.....was probably around mid 30 degrees today compared to your what 50's-60's??

I have to ask....why buy a less efficient sidemount when a frontmount can be purchased for only a little more. Say about...$300

Frontmounts aren't for everybody. Installation and piping can be difficult, expensive, and time-consuming. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the Supra SMIC may be a more efficient intercooler than some of the knockoff frontmounts that are swarming eBay these days.

I don't know what the OP means by a "very very decent price", but it doesn't get much better than this:
eBay Motors: Mitsubishi intercooler Eclipse Talon Dejon Upgrade (item 260182722232 end time Nov-21-07 16:38:03 PST)

Seller lived 3 miles from my house, so there was no shipping involved. For what it cost, I just had to have it....even if it sits at my shop for 5 years, I'll need it someday.

I have a Supra SMIC on my '92 TSi FWD and I LOVE it. You can't argue with the sleeper-factor of a 5" or 6" thick core with 2.5" inlet and outlets wedged behind your front bumper. It does exactly what I want it to.

The fitment of the Supra SMIC wasn't as bad as I was expecting- I had to bend the lower tow-tab on the body a bit to clear the inlet of the intercooler, but aside from cutting away some of the material behind the bumper and opening the tiny hole for the upper outlet, installation was a breeze.

You are correct, they aren't for everyone. I do not believe fitting a FMIC kit is any more difficult that that of a SMIC. And for $300 for a brand new SSAC one, it is a steal, and has proven to nearly 700whp on my friend's 2.3 with a gt35r. Then again, FMIC's are only for people that want to go fast.

BUT...I will retract my statement of suggesting a FMIC because the original poster only wants to run a 14b

Yes I do eventually want to upgrade to a FMIC but for 35 dollars I cant pass this deal up....
As of right now motor is slowly being built back to stockish (maxed the credit card a little while back)and I'm planning on running the t-25 for a while on break in and such....
Then after break in and if I don't owe so much out I'm planning on going bigger....
The car needs a good bit more money dropped into it yet (bout 1k) and I cannot afford to go with a FMIC setup.
I wouldn't mine a Supra SMIC setup so bad if I didn't have to cut at the body in which I really hate doing, My buddy's 1g has this sidemount and it is a perfect bolt on and is perfect compliments to the b16g he has right now. Plus If you think about it a FMIC setup on a t-25 or a 14b is totally overkill....but good for future investments ie: turbos

Does anyone eles got anymore info on the Dejon Modified stock sidemount?? I Did a search and could'nt fine anything about them really. I heard John Shep ran 11s on a modified stock sidemount , would love to know more about that and anymore info you guys got to throw on the topic. Thanks

From Dejonpowerhouse.com:

"We TIG weld a new 2 1/4" dia inlet tube and outlet elbow to the stock Side mount IC. It will fit all brands of Upper IC pipes and both Lower IC Pipes listed below.

Our tests on the full 2 1/4" IC system show a reduction in pressure drop (measured from the compressor elbow to the intake manifold) from 4psi stock to 1psi @18psi boost & 6000rpm.

We take your stock side mount and (1) cut the stock pipes (2) clean with Kerosene and a chemical aluminum cleaner (3) enlarge the in/out holes and (4) TIG weld on new beaded tubes. You receive a clean & shiny side mount. The Inlet pipe is straight so that it will fit 20g & large turbos. Turn around is 2-3days from receipt of your sidemount."

Thanks bro . Anyone one here running one care to give a nice review on its performance ??

I run the modified stock Dejon sidemount on my wife's Laser. The lower pipes are powdercoated to the color of your choice. You will need to purchase the lower pipes from Dejon to make this work unless you want to go thru the bother of hacking something up yourself. I needed to cut off some plastic around the intercooler to feed the pipes to the turbo. Dave johnson said it would give me improved throttle response and he was right. I plan on going with a single nozzle WI kit in the future to lower temps. It's an effective mod while retaining the "stock appearing" sleeper look.:thumb:

Hahn racecraft had a pretty nice looking side mount, but its a little pricey by todays standerds..

My freind had one with a cammed 18G setup and it worked geart, and he felt good gains from it and it was worth it....

But again his car was a sleeper setup
