i was cruising on the highway around 70mph, when i left off the gas all i heard was a nice clunk and a jerk along with it, next thing i know i saw smoke coming from behind..i got off the nearest exit to a gas station. check under the hood and the car and notice silver liquid coming from under the transmisson..looked pretty much like metal shavings. from seeing that i knew my trans was going culprit. walmart was like 1 minute away and i was hoping i could limp it to there and park it, because this gas station had no parking and my car was more at risk getting towed if i left it there. car started fine put it in reverse it grinded, but drove fine all the way till the last light to walmart thats when it did the same thing, all it would do is rev up with crazy mechanical scraping sounds so i pulled it to the side road. when i tried to start it up again it wouldnt no continue cranking it jus stops once it cranks.pieces of metal was found under my transmisson! im hoping that i didnt blew my motor i jus had it rebuilt 3,000 miles ago..im thinking my starter got jammed up along with the transmisson. right now im having troubles finding a 90 m/trans online, and most of the local junkyards only have 90 1.8 liter m/trans..my ? is would i be able to swap in a 1.8liter trans into my 2.0t? and jus for fun anyone has any idea how the hell this could have happened???? LOL. thanks for your time

thanks guys 4 your input..i still havent fully looked at my transmisson to see where the damaged happened at..my car still wont crank is there a possbilty i damaged my crankshaft?? i wish i could afford a TRE rebuild right now..im thinking about getting a decent beater car to rely on for work/school and save up for a good rebuild like TRE.

I coincidentally have a 90 transmission I could part with if you really want to. Although shipping from CT would probably put you into what a TRE would cost. Shoot me a pm if you decide you really need a 90 fwd trans.

hey guys its been awhile. i decided to read up on my haynes manual and read up on transmisson removal seemed pretty easy so i removed my trans and come to find out that my differental housing pretty much blew up, i have a huge hole on it, and a gear outside of the bellhousing that damaged my pressure plate i was lucky enough to remove the plate with some of the bolts that have been damaged by that gear. Even my starter was damaged.
so i went to a junkyard pulled a 2.0 nt transmisson from a 91 laser for 80 bucks, not a bad deal i also took its pressure plate , the clutch (just in case) and the starter . when i got home i notice that theres a difference in clutches nt is smaller, but the the nt pressure plate fits fine to my turbo flywheel, so i checked to see if my turbo clutch would fit to my pressure plate it does but it seems that the sides would be grinding. i also read up that theres a 10mm difference in size between nt and turbo flywheels. Which im really confused at cause if that was true for my case wouldnt the nt pressure plate not fit to my turbo flywheel? i also thought that 90-91 4g63 models were all alike.
im not sure what would be my next best move..becuase if i do need that nt flywheel, will i still be able to buy a stock turbo clutch kit and install it? cause if no then im stuck buying a aftermarket nt clucth kit that can handle boost daily.
i was just hoping that all i have to is just buy a brand new turbo clutch kit and start putting the car together.
any ideas or info is apperciated, thanks for your time.
