Deep lipped wheels??>>

That is moronic. It looks stupid. People who think that looks good should just be shot. It's a waste of tires. You can barely steer.Slammed cars are stupid and tucking the wheels under the fender is ghey. It is like those big boat old man cars with the rear wheels under curtains.

I thought about that same thing, I like the look for the most part, but an AWD coupe probably isn't the best car to try to make into a VIP style car.

Having said that, look for some nice rims with a lip that fit without major modification, drop the car (not crazy negative camber, it's a waste of money - think about how often these guys with "demon camber" have to replace tires) and stretch some tires. You should be happy with the look. A pic of what I mean is attached - not too low, but still looks nice IMHO. BTW, the rims are Work VS-KF which = teh seks.

I'm pretty sure the acceptable range of wheel offsets and widths are available on this forum.

My $0.02. Good luck with it man!

My piece of advice, go buy a Euro car. You should not be driving a DSM, DSM's are about function and performance not "VIP". Sounds like you need a Jetta.

I think that was the only mildly negative comment I have made, because well... I am honestly getting sick of all of the crappy posts people make.

What I am REALLY sick of is the whole "It's their car they can do what they want" attitude. Especially when it comes to stuff like after market lighting. I get sick of not being able to see people's brake lights because they are to blacked out or their head lights being stupidly bright because they got way to high of beams.

Honestly if you are to stupid to search for something that is easy to find you are to stupid to do it correctly and I don't want your piece of junk on the road endangering my life and other people's lives as well. Yet everyone answers their questions.

I have no problem with modified cars on the road as long as its not done by a total idiot who can't read and follow simple directions, or by cheap ebay crap that is likely to fall off and kill someone. If you think its not likely and does not happen let me ask you why do you think DOT approval exists?

All I'm saying is this has been covered A LOT on SEVERAL different sites and a simple Google search would have answered it. It's not like any of this was specific questions related to his progress of installation, which he could not find something similar to.

Am I a "Typical hater"? No, I am not.

Very nicely put, took the words out of my mouth.

I am rockin a somewhat deep lip (3 inch) from what I hear and I love it. I am rockin DPE R20 19x8 in the front and 19x9. I like the deep look but its very hard to pull off on 2G because the rear fenders are so hard to roll to have the tires fit. My tires sizes are 235/30/19 front and 265/35/19 rear with a little rub in the rear but nothing crazy. Not 100% sure of the offset I got them off a G35 and the fitment was great

I have a very deep lip on my 1G, but the wheels are 17x8.5 and doesn't look lame. You don't need wide wheels to have a deep lip.

^^ Correct. Offset.

For a staggered look, consider different F and R offsets, thus keeping the same tire sizing and wheel width.

You can still stagger the sizes and keep AWD, just be very meticulous about trying to match the circumference as close as possible. A difference of a tenth of an inch in circumference is easy to attain, and will only be 2 revolutions of that wheel per mile difference between front and back. Think about if you are 1 or even 2/32 tread difference. That's ~3/16 on the circumference, and you don't see AWD systems blowing up from that.

Tire size calculator

BTW, those previous DSMs were nice. I just hate the whacked out camber look. Unless it is a race car (but even the slightest "VIP" look is probably excess for good handling), having whacked out camber is just wasteful for the street.

like lando said order a set of wheels that are the same size but different offsets

it will give the apperance of staggered wheels and you wont have to worrie about matching circumferences

nice wheels on both cars James

Thanks Adam :thumb:

There is nothing wrong with going wide, as long as you do it right. There is someone on here running 265's or 275's I think, the Auto-X guy. He just has his suspension set to where the height doesn't mess with the fenders.

BTW, Kris what is the size of your wheels? The almost look something similar to the wheels on my 1G, I guess we both have good taste haha.

Sure do when people come and post up stuff that is obviously not a good idea by any stretch. I mean if you want your car to ride like shit and be potentially unsafe I want you to keep that shit off the street. :ohdamn:

Dont think your opinion on him driving on the street is relevant and I dont think he cares. He was asking how to do it not if you approve.
To say something isnt a good idea is acceptable however its keeping everyone a slave to the same appearence. The same people that say
"Thats a stupid idea, dont do it" are usually the same people that come back and applaud it if it has good results.
Evo bumper on a 2g is prime example (even though the thread failed), everyone on dsmtuners wanted to see the outcome more then half of them hated the idea.:ohdamn:

A car like that previously posted with like -30° of camber is unsafe on the streets. If I saw someone like that driving and their wheel fell off and killed someone, or their tire popped, I would murder them. And it isn't legal in any country to drive like that. Here I hope someone would get pulled over instantly. Stuff like that has no business on the street, keep it for the car shows.

No it doesn't look bad (clean actually), but I think the OP wants a lip based on offset and not wheel design because the AXIS hiros have a lip on them but they are flush as in a 42-45 offset. I see what he wants and agree with the same wheel dimensions and just changeing the offset for the stagger.

Warning: This may contain reality, humor, sarcasm, fact, sadness, sickness, mostly boredom before work. With that being said, here I go. This thread caught my eye because I am looking into some new wheels. There is some information in this thread that is useful. There is some information that is amusing. My reply would be too long if I quoted everything. I will try to keep this as short as possible. My opinion is bigger than yours. This I think is the sum of most quarrels. It is not good when one asks questions in search for knowledge(not the original question, just any in general) and then defends their "comment"(tricked into thinking their question was a comment by someone's idea of their question). I want a set of 14's with an 18" lip. The video posted in this thread is hysterical. The pic of the Silvia is alright to say the least (don't hate, it's my opinion) as far as rims go. I like the look just not the chrome. Chrome is meant for real sweet rims like the 14's I fore mentioned. DSM's! So many varieties. So many enthusiasts. So much love. So much hate. Anyways, if no one gets sick of reading this by this point. I would like to address the original question with a question. 992gdsm, What makes you want those specific widths?

Interesting walloftext rant. Fix your avatar, si vous plait.

Just wanted a new look, but if it wont work cool im over it! Going to pick up some work eurolines most likley. At the same time clean and replace everything under the hood. omnius pugnas certus

Wow, this thread is the reason I take my usual year long DSMTuners sabbatical. "Car people" are the reason I don't go to car shows or attend car meets, honestly why I'm typing this altogether instead of just clicking that little "X" in the corner of my screen is beyond me. I'm on the side of the OP who wanted to try something new and almost everyone gangs up on him and beats him down for it. As far as I know he didn't want insane negative camber and all that jazz, yet someone posts some stupid video. I do wierd stuff to cars, like my Corvette with an HKS exhaust system. I also added dumb EVO stuff to my car because it was new and exciting. Now I gotta run crazy camber and super wide wheels with an insanely stretched tire, not even kidding.
