hey all

picked up a 1g gsx with a dash that doesnt work....i have tried 2 other working dashes and still does not work...upon start up you see the rpm gauge come up then falls to zero....same with everything else...turn the key and everything zeros out...possible ground problem?....please help!!

trevor

If you've tried two other working dashes, then the problem would have to be in the dash wiring itself, or as others have said, the fuses possibly. If you have checked the fuses, your best bet is to pull the dash wiring out and check it out for bare wires, shorts, etc. Also make sure the instrument cluster is making good contact and pushed all the way in. If the lights don't work also, more than likely the two plugs on the back of the gauges aren't making contact for whatever reason.

its wierd all lights work and everything...turns..high beams...lights behind the dash...guess ill have to rip it apart

Does your speedometer work? The speedo is mechanical, unless the cluster isn't seated right, that one should always work. Definitely sounds to me like a bad ground though.

any idea where the ground is for the dash??...the previous owner did the ricer guages...the ones thatyou can change the colors from greem to blue...uwhite faces too....he says that this happened after he took the dash out for the guage swap...speedo works!...oil pressure and fuel level....boost,rpm, and coolant temp dont work..

thanks trevor

Well if anyone before you did work the gauges might be a issue for you. I would get another gauge cluster. Got mine from the local u pull here.

i have a 1g with some sim. gauge problems my speedo works of course and my tach but the fuel points to max the oil pressure points to nothing and my temp gauge says its overheating when it just warmed up when you pull out the cluster theres not really just a pack of wires back there to just jump into testing the cluster is very easy to take out so you can see what is really back there the best thing for you to do is just go aftermarket i even took the old gauge cluster and put my own oil fuel and temp gauges inside the old cluster so it still looks stock just everything works for less then 100 bucks its the best way

^ Was there no other way to fix the problem? I'm sort of tight for money at the moment, and can't just go out and buy new gauges...
