I am looking to make eventually around 400hp I am running a TD05 20G turbo and I was wondering which budget intercooler would support that much power. Anything from cxracing? Or should I go with obx?

I would go VRSF but I can't wait because the car is going to get a bunch of work done to it then it's going for tuning soon. Do you guys think PR FMIC will handle the power?

I am a strong beleiver in the saying "You get what you pay for".

With that being said, I would go with PR intecooler if anything, They will provide you with better customer service, and help with the kit is there is a problem. I dont see CX Racing becoming a supporting vendor.

I know its not a choice, and didnt list it as an option for you but I would go with an ETS build. I have been using there intercoolers for a while, ever had a problem with fitment, welds are great and shipping and customer service is great. Plus the piping is all SS, mandrel bend and beaded.

Plus ETS has done extensive research on what intercooler designs to use with out cars (bar plate etc). ETS actually removed the webpage when they updated their website. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tur...fficient-intercooler-cores.html#post152506398

You have a few choices for your set up, depends on you and what you want to do and your budget, and so forth but there is a lot of information on fmic choices on this forum.

The punishment intercooler kit, is the cxracing kit. A step up would be ets, or a custom kit with a better core.

Edit: Just looked and saw the op has a 2g. I'm not sure on the 2g cxracing, and punishment setups.

Great to know they are the same kit, but still punishment will provide you with better quality control, installation issues, costumer service and not to mention they are supporting vendor.

I am sure punishment is way more willing to help you out than cxracing if there is an issue. I cant even find a number to contact them if there is an issue. We have also seen from review they most of their product, if any, have no warranty.

Neither. Build it right or don't build it at all. Buy a real IC kit from ETS, or...NM, most reputable companies have moved on - SO - buy the ebay junk and understand it might leak or the welds might crack.... just sayin'.

EDIT: Removed VRSF as it is apparently in the same category as CXwhatever, SS tinfoil, XS, etc.

If you advocate for VRSF you advocate for the PR kit, they both use low density cores. Some of you people need to actually do research to learn how to determine what is "doing it right."

There VRSF kit is in the same class as the CX/PR kit. Bottom line, for the horsepower level the OP is wanting to acheive a budget FMIC kit will be fine, especially the PR kit.

I don't need to research squat. I'm prefectly content with my Spearco core and custom piping. But, for the benefit of the OP, thanks for clearing that up...to the OP then - lump VRSF in with your other choices. Good luck with whatever kit you choose.

For a 400whp goal, I wouldn't recommend a budget, tin cup IC kit. But what do I know. I'll stick with quality parts and keep quiet.

Another thread embodying why all our vendors are moving on to other platforms. It's too bad.

The PR pipe kit fit like crap for me, The BOV flange on the UICP is so poorly placed it required $300 in extra intake stuff (3" gm maf, maft, K&N filter) to even fit on my car. The tbolts were garbage, and even after I was told I was being sent all new ones I never recived them. The customer service is crap as well, i explained my problems, and sent pics, and instead of sending me the correct piping, They told me they weren't going to help me and if I wanted it to work I'd have to buy stuff or modify my car to make it fit. VRSF would be my choice if I weren't going with an ETS kit.

If you must go with the PR kit do yourself a favor and get the ebay equivalent. There's no reason to pay PR any extra money for it as you get no added value in return.

Overall I agree, thats why I have the ETS kit on my 1g and never considered the PR or CXracing.

I also stumble on this thread, Punishment Racing answers some questions about the kit, its a good read: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/261719-punishment-racing-1g-fmic-kit.html
