cut out at high boost

hello i have looked. but my tsi cuts out when my turbo boost to max. what would cause that?

Yes, we need your mod list to narrow down the reasons. It's most likely fuel cut caused by too much air and not enough fuel. BUT it could be something else like a clogged fuel filter as well. That's why we need your mod list unless you are stock.

Did this happen all at once or did it get progressively worse over a period of time?
How do your spark plugs look? Usually, when I get a cut-out on the top end (or when the boost comes on), the plugs are the first thing that I suspect. When large amounts of air (boost) and fuel occupy the cylinder, it is harder for the spark to jump the spark plug gap. The air/fuel charge act as resistance against the spark, so you MAY need to lessen the gap on your spark plugs.
Bad spark plug wires will cause this problem, too. Check the spark plug gaps. I usually start at about .028 on the gap and decrease from there. You should not have to go below ~.025. If you go down to .025 and the problem still exists you may have another problem. Check the resistance on your spark plug wires (ohm them out).
Also, if your battery or charging system is weak similar symptoms may surface. Make sure the alternator is putting out the proper amount of amps. Test your battery.
Test your fuel pressure as well. You won't be able to effectively test your pressure looking at idle only. Pay attention to your fuel pressure guage when you are in boost and make sure the fuel pressure isn't dropping out intermittenly. Also, make sure the FPR is increasing (and increasing the proper amount) when in boost. Mine (I *think* most) FPR are 1:1 as far as the boost goes, so your fuel pressure in boost should be static fuel pressure (fuel pressure at idle with no vacuum/boost reference) + boost reference ratio (mine is 1 psi fuel pressure for 1 psi of boost). Stock fuel pressure is (IIRC) 43.5 psi, so at 10 psi you should see 53.5 psi of fuel pressure. If you don't see the proper increase, you may need to investigate further.

ok... so why did you turn up the boost??
if you dont have anything to support the amount of boost and air flow, like a safc or some kind of fuel upgrade you will out flow your MAF and then you ecu cuts the delivery of fuel.. its to help from blowing your engine and whatnot!

so how do you even know you hitting full boost and what did you do to turn you boost up??

id suggest you turn it back down... i wouldn't go over 14psi unless you have some type of fuel upgrade!!
On a stock car you can probably get away with 15-16psi but i wouldnt go over 14psi like stated before!!

I just tell people that don't have fuel mods to not even run a boost controller and just run stock BCS or directly off the wastegate. Can't go wrong with that unless you have boost creep.

So that's my answer for you, take off your MBC and run stock pressure since you don't know what's done on the car. With that said, you should take pictures and try to contact the previous owner for any paperwork and info on the mods.

If your car is basically stock, I would start by getting rid of that stock 2G BOV. They are garbage even if your running stock boost. If you are not running a boost controller and still surging or hitting fuel cut when you are at full boost , I would recommend doing a boost leak test. Just a couple things to start out with. GL!

Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? Or are you going from your stock gauge? and with No boost controller, Id definitely check for leaks, search how to make a boost leak tester,and go from there. Check your plugs for correct gap, and wires. But yes,the search does wonders.

And when you say "A bov" does that mean aftermarket or stock plastic? Details please?

Posted in the newbie forum, he is correct in asking Here, Not everyone starts of knowing everything!!! No need to be a dick because he has a low post count, ahhummm. Not everyone posts every free chance they get.

Now on to your problem.

Go into the marketplace and look in the parts catalog See if you recognize any parts such as your bov and such. Next go to the Frequently Answered DSM Questions section and read as much or all you can. Get a haynes or chilton manual and read it. Every bit of info you have will help you with this car, And get used to having some sort of problem or maintenance you have to do to it. There is alot of reasons that can cause your problem, Spark/Air/Fuel

i have a similiar problem, but only in a high rpm third gear pull
stock boost, no injectors, just intake exhaust greedy bov 16g turbo, auto meter boost gauge, fmic, and maybe some other minor thngs but nothing major

Ahhh... The joys of owning a DSM, today I have 1 and by tomorrow night I will have 3. WTF am I thinking?? Anyway I had the same thing happen to me, almost felt like the TPS sensor was doing what a bad or broken TPS sensor does but I am sure it was fuel cut. I did a no no hit 18psi on a stock 14b with only a 255 Walbro an no FPR and stock injectors and MAF, which after I get off this computer I am going to install the FPR in the 93 GS with the 90 GST MotorFWD I am getting tomorrow is loaded with goodies and the 93 AWD Talon Auto is bone stock and will go to the scrap yard once I get the goods off of it unless I can sell the roller, hey for $200 bucks it is a deal I can't turn down.

Good luck with the car and be patient, I killed my first DSM by getting crazy with it before it had any supporting mods. You will be happier in the end and have fun building it in the process.

Having the same issue....factory boost control solenoid...factory injecrors...factory fuel pump...big 16g...full exhaust fmic greddy bov...tubular manifold...car wont rev past 4k...no boost leaks at all just checked...fresh plugs and wires..no clue what is causing this

First, as with everyone who starts asking "why does my car...?" fill out a profile and list every deviation from stock.

Now to your issue, what o2 housing are you using? is your big 16g ported? Do you have a boost gauge? What wastegate are you using? Does it rev over 4k out of gear? Do you have any CELs? You could be hitting wicked boost creep which leads to hardcore fuel cut. Or could be something unrelated. Now way to know without the the details.
