Ok, heres my situation and story included

My dad calls me, he said he has a big intercooler off of some turbo truck, he asks me if i want it and can do something with it, i tell him to go ahead and get it, he paid a whole 20 dollars for it, its a bar - plate core, the measurments are 36x16x5x2.25 now, obviously its to big how it sits, but i have a good friend that can weld and make endtanks and pipes for next to nothing so i wanna do this, now, my choices are this . take about 6 inches off the bottom, leave it the same lenght and thickness, or 2. cut it in half and weld the 2 together and make it 36x8.25x4.5'' what do you guys think i should do with it ? Thx. i just wasnt sure if it would be to thick, but 2.25 is kinda thin, just let me know what yalls opnions on the matter is ... thx :dsm:

I say you attemp to mount it in there, have your welder friend custom fab everything, that's the hugest dsm intercoolzorz Ive seen! OMG ofcourse youd have to trim the ic of the bottom somehow or itll be grinding on the street :thumb:

36inches is still very long for the IC combined with 4.5 inches thick you better hope it doesn't get hot becasue you aren't getting any air to the radiator.

Just trim some off the bottom. I would say that the extra length will somewhat make up for the fact that its a little bit thin :barf: (did anyone else catch that?)

But seriously...that is what I would do. I would not double it up because it would be too thick.

Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

you can cut them, u just re weld the panels, its a lil bit more complicated than that, but thats the essentials, u just re weld what u cut off in a different spot, i like the opinions guys keep um coming

Either way I only see it as a temp solution till you get a real FMIC>

i would trim it from the bottom. i personally see nothing wrong with using a custom truck core fmic, save around 500 bucks. my opinion though

is it just me or i thought you couldn't just cut intercoolers because they would then leak air... or is that just the endtanks???

cutting the end tanks off of an intercooler is the same as cutting in the middle; its the same pattern throughout. as long as you weld the end tanks on good it wont leak air.

Thats the same intercooler I'm trying to fit right now! I'm just using the bottom 8 inches of it, that way i don't have to hack up the bumper rebar. Also 36*8*2.5 is close to the same area as alot of the "street" cores out there. With it having more length and shorter depth you'd think it would cool a bit better since more of the face is exposed. Then again i could be wrong, oh well i got mine for free.
