Custom exhaust manifold build

Your interested in the title now let's get into the details. Im going to have the most descriptive manifold build ever. The objective is A T3 twin scroll for a WH1C Holset.

I ordered my flanges from turbo-flanges on Ebay. 1/2" steel. I also got 16 90* elbows, 8 45*, and 4' schedule 10 (.109") 1.5" SS tubing from ace stainless. $300 in materials. Yes im sure I over ordered but I plan to build another.

I ordered the vr speed intercooler kit today. Once I get this it will be installed to mock up my turbo location. Its going to be a bottom mount manifold. I have extensive knowledge welding tubing and joint fit up. I mainly work with .028" and .035" stainless and inconel tubing ranging from 1/4" to 6". Holding tolerances .010" to .040". Hopefully I can share tips and tricks to help you on your manifold fit up and weld cosmetics.

Yes. I haven't done the second one yet. Ill be more specific on measurements too.

this looks like it was MIG tacked, by the look of the bead true? id think TIG would be the way to go.

They look like TIG tacks to me, but it's tough to tell from those pics.
Either way, TIG or MIG would both work just fine for tacking.

I like it man. I'm curious as to what your goals are in designing the manifold. I saw somewhere that it was mentioned the length of the runners are not only a factor, and that the direction of the flow will effect the characteristics of the manifold due to different velocities of the pulses going up, down, or horizontal.

They look like TIG tacks to me, but it's tough to tell from those pics.
Either way, TIG or MIG would both work just fine for tacking.

it could be TIG, i havent welded in a while, i was more referring to the actual welds to be TIG rather than MIG

Yes its all going to be TIG welded. I can't take any photos of the saw to show how I cut them. (If someone saw me taking photos id probably get fired. ) I cut them on a chop saw then trimmed them in together with a belt sander. I didn't finished the other collector but I got it cut. Ill do it tomorrow and give some measurements. I did get one welded. Im happy with the material from ace stainless. Welded very clean. Make sure you remove the oxidation before welding.

Well I don't have a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering (Haha if you read that post) but im just going to try to keep the runners as equal as possible by eyeballing. My only goal is to save $600-$700. I saw some of the work MAP did on the $1000 manifolds and wasn't impressed. The welds were low and undercut. Some of the joints had offset. Maybe im just to picky because I am a welder. For $1000 better be perfect to me.

Id assume it would fit both. I thought about building these on the side. But the more I think about it...I don't think I will. Its too easy for me to work OT and make more $ than it is to come home and work for side job. I can work 80 hrs if I wanted. The only thing that my manifold will differ from others is quality. But will we get into that more later.

it doesnt matter if its a 1g or a 2g.....

i was also going to do this on the side for my own build, but i picked up a DNP, i still plan to make a top mount some day just dont ahve access to a TIG at the moment

ummm..... the only thing that differs is quality but you will talk about that later... how about this, no one cares how much money you can make working over time. your not the only one that has a job, some people like to fabricate as a hobby, not cause they are trying to make a profit, go troll elseware
