crazy oil pressure.

i just got this car about 3 months a go. 1999 GSX totally stock.

my oil pressure cruising is over 3/4 on the stock gauge. i know it is probably not too acurate. when i am on the highway it is pegged on H. i am running redline 10 40 synthetic. at idle it is about 3/8ths on the gauge.

any ideas that might cause this? it is the second oil change since i got the car and same thing.

i run 5/30 and it stays around half way.

With thicker weights of oil, you're going to get higher oil pressure. I don't know if that much pressure is normal, though - both of my DSMs' oil pressure gauges have been off due to a sender problem.

it is becuase of the thicker oil. i would run 5/30 or 10/30. and fully synthetic is the way to go with turbo.

The sender may be getting old. Five years into its life, it won't be doing anything odd that won't involve the engine going away before you can get inside to type to us about it. You're just learning your specific car's characteristics.
Keep in mind DSMs read oil pressure right at the pump output, which may not be where other cars you've owned are measuring it.
