Crazy Electrical issues..radio..cluster..wtf?????

My brothers 2g talon is doing strange things.First, note that no electrical things have been done on the car recently.With that said, he was driving the other day and the radio shut off..windows didnt work and his battery light came on.New battery in it so obvious first issue is the alternator.Took it out, tested it and replaced it with a new one. Car starts fine, but no power to radio and the windows dont work.The brake and battery lights are dimly lit, but not like they are when normaly illuminated. To make things stranger, the rpms are doing all types of crazy things and the head lights will turn on, but not shut off...even though i can hear the relay click!Im thinking maybe his cluster has an issue, but that doesnt explain the radio/windows/headlights...any input?

Your "new" alternator is also dead.

Yeah definitely not the ecu..I was thinking the same thing about the alternator...ill check it out

I thought I fixed the original problem (posted above) on tuesday. I got a new alternator and switched out the battery. The car ran find for all of tuesday. Wednesday while driving it started losing power (no acceleration) and the lights went crazy, wipers would barely move (it started raining) and the car eventually died. I pulled over and got a jump, noticed the clamp was not secure on terminal, banged it on and drove right over to Advanced and got a cap for terminals to make them thicker. Also noticed that one of the positive battery wires was burned, cut it hooked it back up (cut slightly shorter, didnt splice a new wire to it so thats not an issue)

The car is completely dead now. I took out the alternator and had it test. It was fine. I took out the battery and had it tested, it has no dead cells, put it on the charger and let it charge then tried again. When you put the key in the interior lights all work and the door alarm works....but as soon as I turn the key everything goes dead, no power at all. No sound just everything dead. I'm stumped.

Did you replace both terminals?? Mine did the exact same thing all interior lights on turned key nothing. I cleaned the battery terminals like 3 times couldn't find any loose wires at all. Finally I replaced both terminals and everything started working again.

Yup replaced both terminals.

Your battery may now be too dead to crank the car. you said when you try to start it everything dies what happens when you let the key go does everything come back on?

N once you turn the key everything is shut off and is off for like...20 minutes, then if you try again the same thing happens.

I Know On The 1g There Is A Seperate Power Wire On The Battery For The Radio And Windows, But Don't Know If The 2g Is The Same

Any ideas!? i already changed my altenator 3 times! new terminals, new battery and new starter so i have no idea whats causing this

I had a similar issue (no start, only clicking behind radio). Ended up being the power wire that goes from the + terminal of the battery to the starter. It had completely broken in two under the insulation near the connector at the battery end.

If you have a voltmeter get under the car and check for voltage at the starter while someone turns the ignition. If no voltage then power is not getting from battery to starter. Check for a broken power wire, good connections at both ends and clean, solid ground connections.

No problem.

If you discover that power is not getting to the starter and the power wire is intact (can check for continuity with an ohmmeter to confirm) then consider a faulty:

1) Ignition switch (there is a test to determine if it is bad)

2) Relay (the one behind the radio that is clicking or buzzing)

3) Clutch kill switch
