Hows everyone doing? I'm having some electrical issues after doing a engine swap, and things are just getting worse. when i did the swap, everything worked. Now, it all started off with a bad head light. for some reason, my passenger head light (low beam and high) is extremely dim. checked the headlight fuse, checked wiring, all looked fine. Now my gauge lights arent working, ex. speedo and tach, but i still have all my dummy lights ex. check engine, anti lock, etc. and also, i have no tail lights -_- brake lights still work. but no tail lights.

Check all the fuses, also inspect and clean all the ground connections.
Battery to firewall, battery to trany and check if all the fuses are good, Don't just look and test them, But take them off, inspect them and put them back on, some times they look good but once you remove them, they fall apart.

i did pull out the ones that were related to the issues im having. and visually inspected them, but have not had the chance to check them with a multimeter yet.

Sounds like a classic case of a bad ground or a dying alternator.

ill check all of my grounds, but if my alternator was dying, wouldnt my car have trouble starting up due to low voltage? it starts right up without an issue every time.

Alternator doesn't help the car start or supply any initial power really, its all battery. The alt keeps the battery charged while the car is going. To check for a bad alt, grab your voltage while the car is running. Should be in the realm of 13.5-14.2 anything REALLY high like 16 or anything in the 12v area is not good.

but if my alternator was not working correctly, wouldnt my car have trouble starting? and wouldnt the low voltage effect everything, not just the few things that are not working?

The battery has enough power to start the car on its own. Diodes can go out in the alternator and cause what you're describing. Did you check the relays in the bay?

Exactly. I have seen first hand, alternators go bad but still put out voltage just not enough to keep everything up and running. The 2g's also have a alternator relay that clicks on the dummy light. Mine was over by the transmission, try finding that and unplugging it and see what happens. My best guess is a charging system error though. Did you check your alt fuses?

honestly, i never even thought to check the alternator. figured it was a fuse or relay issue. but ill check the alternator

Well I would have assumed you checked all, like all of them. That's my first step when looking for problems. Then I just take all of the engine bay relays out and shake em around to see if they're good.

Dude, go get a multimeter and a schematic, and start checking voltage in your problem areas. Is sounds like a short to ground... Happy troubleshooting..
