Edmonton,
hey well i got a rebuild a while ago, and when i try to shift really fast into second it wont even go in gear, it will sit kinda out of it, then if i try pushing it all it will do is grind, i put it back in neutral and can go into second no prob. but when i shift remotley fast, not super fast, it goes into second, but it feels like its a tight squeeze :thumbdown and its kinda notchy, any ideas?

ummm... to my understanding it was the synchros, and sleeves, and this and that. i dont have my papers here. but it was grining before, but a different grind, its better now, but its also worse now, i dont get it. if i shift remotley fast it will go in but if i shift real fast it will grind, and will act stupid for like 3-4 days. its retarded!!

did you break it in when you got it? like 500 miles of easy driving, easy shifting and then changed the fluid? Either way, i'd be asking the shop you took it to this question.

yes i drove it very lightly, i changed the fluid before, and it did nothing, i dont see what changing it would do for this problem. damn trannies!!

k so i went to the tranny shop today and they changed the fluid for me, and also put in some additive, and adjusted my clutch pedal, n e way, it made my tranny so much smoother, but i still cant figure out whats wrong with the second gear, tranny guy says it may be clutch, but i am convinced its not because i can be coasting in third, put the clutch in for like 3 seconds then go quickly to second and it still wont go...it grinds. any ideas? is my second gear completely messed?

If your clutch was causing the problem, it would also affect shifting into other gears, too. Does your clutch engage right off the floor? If your clutch engages a few inches off the floor then it's not the clutch.

Since second gear was grinding before the rebuild I'd guess that the gear itself is messed up. Replacing the syncro and hub sleeve will help, but if the engagement splines on the side of the gear are rounded off it's just going to grind down the new syncro and hub sleeve.

k but when i say i want the whole damn thing rebuilt shouldnt the retards replace everything once they take it apart? whatever its under warranty, and they can suck it if they think im gonna pay anything again. and yes the clutch is fine, it engages properly. dman stupid tranny, now i cant go the import battle this weekend and make all of the hondas look stupid!

well - they will replace the standard stuff: hub, sleeves, synchros - that's why i try to tell people to take it to a shop that does DSM's and has good repuation for it. It doesn't matter if you take it to shep or tre, you know you're gonna get a good rebuild ( in my case, TRE - and it's shifting like a dream! ). How many miles were on your DSM when you took it in for the tranny rebuild?

well here in canada there is no such thing as a DSM shop. they aint popular here in canada. the car has 180 k so i dont know how many miles that is. but yeah, its messed!

You would mail the tranny to a shop in the US.

A tranny does not require any kind of break-in, anyone who says it does is wrong.

It sounds like you have a dead synchro. A clutch problem would make all the gears suck.

i know that i would mail the tranny... but i looked into pricing for that and its REAL expensive, if a re-build costed me 1200-1500 US, and shipping another 200 US each way id be looking at like 3 grand canadian. it aint worth it. but yeah, if he replaced the synchro why would it do this... either way the stupid thing is going back to they guy.
