so i just got it, 90 talon, 2.0 n/t, $250. couldnt pass it up. heres the history(or at least what they told me), overheated on the interstate, had a head gasket put on, couldnt pay the bill and let it sit for a year. the guy got it out, it ran fine, sold it to my wifes friends friend. he drove it for a while, did a timing belt and now it doesnt run. i redid the timing belt cause he only had the cams in time, nothing else. the secondary belt was fine though, kinda weird to me. it had bad spark, so i checked the plugs, ngks with broken tips. did bosch plugs and wires, now its got great spark. checked fuel, flows quite nice, put five new gallons of mid grade in after draining a gallon or so of crap gas. turns over nicely but doesnt fire. checked compression, cylinders 1,3, and 4 hove nothing, cylinder 2 has 30 psi. it always backfires a real nice fireball out the intake that is really good for getting rid of your eyelashes, eyebrows, and beard, haha, its funny... i pulled the plugs and turned it over again, turned over at way higher rpms that ever! so im wondering if its possible that the cams are 180 degrees out? maybe thats why when i turn it over it throws fireballs out the throttle body? i checked the tps, works great, ect works great, ecu? the guy also put in a new cam or crank sensor, it seems like there is no exact name for it. i tried to test it but only see a diagram for a four prong flat connector, obviously a 91 and up. i dont have wire diagrams, so i dont know. is it resistance or volts, and across what terminals? im no dsm god, but ive worked on some cars before. wanna get it running before i take my BFH too it, and i need help, any info or suggestions?

put a cap full of oil in each cylinder with the plugs out crank it for thirty seconds, pull the fuel relay, sounds like no compression.

Do you know how to set up the timing belts on these things, do you have a manual or any thing, Was #1 on top dead center before you set the rest of it up, Cams, oil pump, b belt etc. Because if you have all that correct and you have no compression and back fire ing you may have some bent valves my freind. But also i have a 90 AWD auto matic that the balance shft bearing wiped on and the meatle shaving from the bearinf compacted the rings to the pistons cause total loss of compression but sice you have back fireing you looking at a slighlty mis timed head or bent valves

Definately isn't going to start with no compression. If he only had the cams in time and nothing else, the valves are bent. When you did the belt did you put everything in time? I'm guessing all the valves are bent and you're going to have to pull the head.

AGREED, hence fire balls

damn, i was praying i didnt have to pull the head. i did the timing belt to spec, tdc on compression, so i figured the head was good. i turned the engine by hand and everything seemed to turn nice and easy. would a rocker be consistently loose if a valve was lbent? would it always rock? well, i think that you have all confirmed my worst fears. any advice for me when i do my head, please, reply in english only.

okay, got 5 head bolts left. had to improvise and use a 10 mil allen wrench with a socket on it and the socket finally broke. that was the same time my knuckle met a cam gear, it was awfully neat with the blood and everything... since im getting this far in the engine already would now be the time to get a 2g turbo exhaust manifold, 1g 93+ turbo exhaust cam, and better clutch? i figure if i gotta fix some shit up i guess i should build it right. im goin power on a budget, just to prove a point on power versus money. may all the wisemen give advice please. ill have pics tomorrow...

been a while, just figured i let anybody know my progress. i bought a new house so its been hectic. sold my s10 and got an 85 chevy short box and put in a 454 and th400 trans. cant get traction at the strip so only a 16.1 @ 84, 3 sec 60 ft, gotta love open diffs! got a turbo head for the talon, tried putting it on with exhaust and intake manifolds on. screw that, pulled the exhaust. its been pretty cold and theres alot of snow in front of the car so it makes it extra rough. as far as the head goes, it was decked and in really good shape. $200 ebay, BUT, most of the bolt holes for the valve cover are stripped, the guy said so in the bid but i got it anyway. helicoil them or what?
