whats the odds of it happening to my car.... i read up on it and i understand what it is but can someone explain it to me a lil better. an if it is a guarentee with this motor what do i have to change on my motor to prevent it.

Crankwalk is so overrated. Keep your cars maintenance up and you probably will not run into problems..

I don't know a whole lot about it but from what I have read it does happen but not a whole lot. Seems to be more hyped up. And it happens mostly on manual transmission cars.

Mistu supposedly fixed it late 98-99.

Odds are that you will not get it. My car has 140,000 miles, boosting 25 psi on pump gas daily. Still running strong. Just make sure to keep your clutch master properly adjusted so there's no pressure on the clutch when the pedal is fully out.

thanks.

ok now that its clear that the odds of it occurring to me is slim to none... now can someone explain to me whst happens to the motor when it happens an the syptoms

^^^What he said. Keep your oil clean and your clutch properly adjusted. That is all you can do. Mitsu changed the thrust bearing for the later 2gb but it still happens.

yes, this happens because they only used half of a the thurst bearing.

what happens is when you release the clutch, it still stays partially engaged. I'm sure you can figure out the rest, if not I'll start splannin' XD

I have built a lot of dsm engines. Almost every 7-bolt core i see has a visibly worn thrust bearing surface. I talked to the techs at the local mitsu dealers and they say the same thing. The machine shops i use also verify that this is their experience also. They all don't walk bad enough to destroy the crank sensor and stop running, but they are almost all out of spec.

I haven't had mine out to tinker yet, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn what you say is true. It just has yet to cause me problems, and I don't know if it ever will. And many many 7-bolt friends lay claim to the previous statement as well.

What he says is indeed true. Virtually all 7bolt cranks are out of spec that I've ever seen, they just aren't so bad that it damages the engine. I've had to go on many a junkyard excursions for friends back in the day. Everytime we went, we never failed to find a 7bolt that was out of spec. Of course, you could run it for years that way with no ill effects - people only notice it when it finally takes out the CPS. The solution is quite simple... if you must keep a 7bolt, keep your clutch adjusted, don't push it in when you start the car, and change your oil on a regular basis. Otherwise, convert over to a 6bolt.

Well apparently 2g clutch masters are prone to wearing out of proper adjustment or F.O.D. getting into the o-rings and causing a owner to adjust it incorrectly. This very well could be the cause for frequent engine tear downs revealing significant thrust bearing wear.

my car has almost 130k and does not have it.

how many miles do you have on the car?

Have you checked it with a dial indicator? Your clutch doesn't have to stick to the floor, or the car stop running from a broken crank sensor to have an out of spec crank thrust.

the clitch does not kick down

i just finished replacing the rod bearings, and i checked the crank play and it is perfectly fine. no unusual wear at all!

so im sure the motor will pop before i get any sign of CW LOL

My auto awd had about 140k on it when I dropped the pan. It was out of spec. The thrust bearing was visibly worn and the rod bearings were showing wear as well. I first noticed a drop in oil psi and caught it before it became a major problem. You can replace the bearings without removing the motor or crank, its been done and some people will tell you it cant but IT CAN there is nothing wrong with this method Ive done it for years as well as my father who has been twisting wrenches for 30+ years.

Total cost was around $50.00 for new bearings.

There's a lot more to it than just misadjusted clutches. Stock vehicles can get it as well. It's just a design flaw that you have to deal with on the 2Gs.

Yea, stock cars can have screwed up masters too. Mine did, and all transmission stuff is bone stock.

If you read the top of that article, he recants all the info. Saying he was wrong and all of it was a waste of time.
