yeah buy a 6 bolt motor and put it in
damn, you beat me to it,

also see, dont mod your car, it wont prevent it, but it will more than likely take longer to happen. also, a heavy pressure plate will accellerate walking an insane amount

6-bolts dont really "prevent" it, they just happen to walk less then their 7-bolt counterparts.

Certain things have been known to contribute, especially things that place additional pressure on the thrust bearings like an improperly adjusted clutch, super-heavy clutch, driving around with the clutch continually depressed.

Do yourself a favor and take it easy on your drivetrain if you fear crankwalk. However, you can take all the precautions in the world and still get it. Or simply not get it. My '95 had 170k miles on it before the motor gave out - but not due to crankwalk :)

Just gotta comment... it's just the 2G seven-bolts that seem to be notorious for crankwalking. The 1G seven-bolts (92.5-94) don't seem to have the flaw that makes it happen more often. :)

Another thing that might help delay it is to remove the safety switch that only allows you to start the car to start with the clutch depressed. Some people like the extra safety, but I rather save my thrust bearing when they aren't well lubricated. Plus I'm not an idiot and I always make sure its in neutral when I start it.

Dont put alot of force on the crank .
( ie, alot of extra horsepower coupled with a clutch that wont give )

in other words, your odds are better if you leave it alone and take it easy on the car.

The actual cause of crankwalk has never been determined, so the "prevention" is likewise unknown.
Many theories abound. One suspect is that it's caused by not using the Search on the board.
