i have a 91 talon tsi awd.i know that this is a newby q but i want to see if the only way to vent is to get the gm maf and translaor. i like the sound of my stock bov but my buddy has a hks that sounds amazing an i would like to run one also. any ways around? chipping? 2g maf? THANKS

I run an hks bov with a 2gmas. You'll still run rich because of it. People here will tell you not to do it. I do it. It's my car. If it is your car do as you like. But i have noticed on a 1g mas it doesn't like venting.

unless you want your car to run like :barf: i would suggest getting the translator and gm maf.. if your only doing it for the sound, i would say dont do it, its not worth it..

You can vent it just plug the recirc pipe :) Your car will run like Shit.... It will run rich, stall, idle lumpy just will sound cool I guess... If thats what ya want then go for it.

You can recirculate the HKS SSQV BOV. Do you car a favor and recirculate. Your probally new to turbo car, hence why you want to vent.

In my opinion running rich and all the problems that it causes just isn't worth just having the vented sound if it's worth doing then it's worth doing right, but hey it's your car do what you like

actually running an HKS bov won't cause you to have a lumpy idle. The hks bov is closed durning idle. and I haven't had any problem with stalling. Even after a 9k pull and pressing in the clutch.

If you really wanted to you could go to speed-density air metering, but that's much more involved than a GM MAF-T, so my guess is that you wouldn't be interested.

Get an HKS SSQV a real one. If you do it will idle and run well. I never had a problem. The only time I could see it running rich on an SSQV is inbetween shifts. But mine seems alright. Dont vent with any other BOV tho Because they will suck in air at idle due to there single vavle design. The SSQV does not because of a dual push/pull double vavle design. It only opens under psi vareations.:thumb:

Good info on the mechanism of HKS. But that's one of the two problems solved. His car is still going to run 50% like crap. GM MAF and translator is the cheapest and easiest way to do it right.

The simple fact of the matter is that it doesn't matter which brand you buy.

After air goes through the MAF, the computer adds fuel to compensate. If you bleed off air (vent to atmosphere) it will run rich. And it will run rich at exactly the wrong time, when you let off the pedal and the engine is dropping back to idle. Too much fuel at this point causes very rough running and engine dying.

I got bit by the vented BOV bug when I first got my car. I tried it with stock BOV, HKS, Greddy... no difference.

If you just like the noise, hang you head out the window and scream WHOOOSH!!!! between shifts.... same effect, less money.

This is ture the only real way around venting a bov right is do have a GM Maf after the bov or some sort of air meter after the bov. Any time the bov goes off vented on any stock DSM maf the car is going to run richer. Because why? Metered air is leveing the system with no way to compisat for the loss of air the motor will run richer. But if you are going to vent with out a gm maf and such. Best BOV to do it with is the HKS SSQV . ok.:rocks:

yes get a GM MAF and translator... i'm in love with the woosh sound but i have mine recirculated still... i just got my hands on a gm maf and translator and if i did not get one then i would still run it recirculated in my books blowing past a car without the whooosh sound is better then stalling out next to him trying to launch your car and get a whoosh sound

IMO i think vented bov's are ricey. If your getting a aftermarket bov, so others can hear it..rice. My bov releases little to no air at all. Its nice to be in boost changing gears. I made my shiz out of some pvc.

LoL its funny that most of the guys that are new to this want to vent, and most of them that have had turbo cars for a while like to recirculate......I have my car set up blow through....and recirculate! I have gotten way over the woosh sound....in fact its pretty annoying all of the time!
