I have a 1999 Eclipse with the 420a motor and I just got the crank timing gear pulled off.

My first question is the gear has a few cracked off pieces due to what I assume is the last owner trying to fix the leaking crank seal and tried using a jaw puller. I was curious if that would affect anything to where I should hold off for a week to get a new gear.

My second question is I have never replaced a crank seal so I was curious if I should be using any type of rtv on the seal itself and if so where.

My third question is the seal that I got came with 2 other seals and a small o-ring and I was curious what those three were for. Here's a link to the kit I bought https://www.autozone.com/internal-e...l-pro-timing-cover-gasket-tcs45962/265899_0_0

My last question is, what's the best way to get the crank gear back on, and is there only one way it goes back on or do I just have to try and put it back on exactly where it was by estimate?

Any help is appreciated thank you.

The crank sprocket is keyed, meaning it can only go on one way. I can't really tell if you need to replace it without seeing it. If it looks like it would cause damage to the timing belt then you definitely should. They are discontinued and getting harder to find but here's one. Mopar part #4648939AA

Do not use a 3 jaw puller to remove. There are 3 threaded holes in the sprocket for a reason. Instead use one of these:

Also no sealant or RTV is required when installing the main seal. If the sealing diameter of the oil pump looks scratched or damaged then I would use a skim coat, but otherwise it will be fine. And from the picture on the product listing I can't really tell what those other o-rings are for. But the 420a uses very few of them. They could be for the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor.

Thanks for your help. Here's a picture of the sprocket. No actual damage to the teeth but you can see it has a few chips taken out of the lip and I wasn't sure if that would cause problems. Also I'm now currently trying to put the new seal in and I can seem to get it to go in. Should I be using some type of grease/lube to help get it in or does it just require a good amount of force? Thanks

I personally would replace the sprocket. There's a chance it won't damage your belt, but it is in rough shape. That's up to you but I wouldn't leave it like that.
You shouldn't have to use any sort of lubricant to install the main seal but it definitely won't hurt anything to do so. Use some engine oil or assembly lube if you think it will make it easier. I usually just find a socket the same diameter as the seal and use that to push it in. You may need to tap it with a rubber mallet to get it completely flush fitting to the oil pump.

Thanks for your help. I got one last question. I got that seal on and now all I got left is the sprocket. I went ahead and took your advice on getting a new sprocket, but I'm having trouble getting it on. I can get it on till it hits the sprocket key then seems to get stuck. Someone suggested boiling the sprocket then hammering it on with a proper size socket is that the way to go? And if so how long should I heat the sprocket for? Lastly how far should I put it on the shaft? Do I just get it until it can't go any farther or does it need to only be pressed so far on? Thanks
