Both my cars manifolds have cracks, actually more than one crack a piece. im not sure if they leak or not but would a tubular manifold off ebay suit my needs? I have the stock TD05 and i can get a tubular one for around 110 so i figured id ask. Thanks

I bought a stainless EM off eBay before I knew it was looked down upon. My stock EM was perfectly fine, but I wanted a different one because I thought the stock EM looked ugly (again, I didn't know any better). The one I bought off eBay (see pictures on my member's page) was from a guy who made them here in the USA; it wasn't some overseas aftermarket company. I bought it for $175. I just tried to do a search on eBay, but couldn't find the exact EM I bought; but the ones I did see looked really cheap and thin.

Anyways, I actually could tell a performance difference after I installed my eBay EM. It made the car redline quicker and it felt like it was pulling harder pulling from 4k-7k RPM.

Also, I don't run a heat shield because I can't find one to fit the EM I have. I have had no problems with fans melting, overheating, or EM cracking as of yet. I even did 6 straight 1/8 mile pulls at the local dragstrip last summer and nothing bad happend. If I could go back, I'd buy the FP exhaust mani, just because they are proven and have great flow. But I have had no problems with my eBay EM, but I will always have to keep an eye on it where as I would never have to even think about it if it were a FP manifold.

Just my experience with them.. hope this helps. :thumb:

Was that with your current mod list?

With a few mods done to increase airflow and/or a bit larger turbo, it makes sense that there would be some gains when switching to a well-designed EM. But on a stock car (and even a moderately modified one), the factory EM is usually not a restriction; especially if it's ported.

Yes. I forgot to mention my car had a cat-back and a 16g installed when I bought it. That's when I put on the EM. You're right, performance would not be affected with a stock dsm if the only thing you upgraded was to a tubular manifold.
