This is for my friend who has a 2G.
Symptoms started all of a sudden but his car has always thrown a code for CPS & Cylinder misfire. Whenever he presses the clutch the car stalls and sometimes die. He was having start up issues and we attributed to his plugs being fouled so we replaced them and it started right up but then the clutch issues started. He also has his clutch switch disengaged. From what I gather the start up issue could also be attributed to a bad CPS.
We replaced the CPS yesterday and it started up fine but when he would press the clutch you could hear what it seems like the sensor blade hitting the sensor. It started making a loud high pitch grinding noise. The car did not stall after a couple of shifts but then it started dying again as he would press it in. No codes are being thrown yet. I have pulled on the crank pulley and it has some play to it.
Car is a 96 but has "evo 3" internals and I assumed the block is a 97-99 because of the CPS behind crank. OFH looks in pretty bad shape. Oil leaks all over the place.
But before we can tackle that, is it walking? How feasible is it rebuild the bottom end with stock internals assuming the block is ok? Could he rebuild using the revise washers and bearings with oem parts?
I'm not too knowledgable of 2Gs as I am 1Gs Thanks
