Could ruined valve seals leak into turbo inlet?

Read topic, this is my final question to determine what is ruined on my car. If worn valvestem seals can cause oil to leak into the turbo inlet, and outlet....then i will know what to replace. if not, i know its my turbo :p

meh, no shaft play, no broken fins. but that doesnt help my question, i need to know if there is any other possible way for oil to get into the inlet (on and around the fins) other than being the turbo itself. cause if its possible, then i may have another problem, but if its not, i got one unlucky, yet nonshaftplayed turbo.

mine smoked at idle after out of the blue one day, and i took it for a quick 5 mins drive, i wasnt paying attention to rpms, but the higher i went the more smoke came out. i took it apart and cleaned the intercooler and intake pipe, reassembled and within 1 minute of idling i had oil everywhere again. took everything back apart and havent started the car since. but ive read everything here and i have the same diagnosis as worn valve seals and turbo seals. i just dont know how to determine which one it is.

ou see it is pretty hard to diagnose a car over the internet but here are a few possibilities.

1. If you still have the factory valve cover vent tube in place it is possible that the oil is coming from that tube. If you are getting abnormally large amounts then maybe your motor has alot of blowby (bad rings).

2. the seals in the turbo are bad and leaking from the cartridge into the compressor.

3. The valve seals will not allow oil into the turbo inlet. you cant test these by letting the car sit for a day and then start it, the car should smoke BAD because of the oil that seaped through the seals into the cylinders.

more than likely I would say you have a damaged turbo.

It won't leak into the turbo from the valves. It'll get drawn into the cylinders and burned. Do a compression test to see if it's rings or valves.

well, if valves dont leak oil into the turbo, i would really just be testing for rings right? ill test it tommorow and see how things go.
